74F is ok for the cool end of the tank, but snakes need a hot spot too - do you measure the temps on the warm end of the tank?.. i would think that a Under Tank Heater will happily keep a 10g tank at the right temp for a corn snake.

with a 10 gal. I would not use both a Under Tank Heater and Ceramic Heat Emitter at the same time, i would imagine the temps would be too high for corns. I suggest a thermometer/rheostat combo

I don't think you should use a Ceramic Heat Emitter at all with a tank so small.. your heat mat should be perfectly adequate. Hot spot temps should be 85f, so I should stick with the Under Tank Heater.

What do you mean the corns rarely go on the other side?> which side?

I too would recommend against the Ceramic Heat Emitter for a ten gallon tank. They just generate tooo much heat. Corns are a temperate species and do not require tropical temperatures. It also will not hurt for the temps to drop a bit during the night. I use heat pads only for all my corns and kings.

Well dont go spend that 30 bucks just yet. I was surprised to see that only one person suggested a rheotat. If you are using a heat pad you NEED to have a rheo/thermostat. End of story.
