I have an escapee!!

I have just gone down stairs to clean out Bruiser and Mistys tank, and Misty is gone, I just dont understand it, I have gone over the tank and there is no escape roots and she is quite big, but she obviously found somewhere.

Would she make her way upstairs or stay down, I have a fireplace and it gets quite warm under there in the room where she escaped but I cant see any sign of her.

I just dont know where to start as all my daughters things are piled up in there packed in bags and things all over the place that she has just left, and baskets full of kids toys, geez im going to have my work cut out, i dont know when she escaped last night or night before I didnt check them yesterday cause I was out most of the day and really busy.

Any tips anyone on what are where she might of headed, I just hope she didnt manage to get in the kitchen where the dogs are.

Hello,
Focus your search on the room that she escaped in. Most times, the snake can be found in close proximatey of where they escaped. Anything that she can get under, in, behind, or on top of should be checked.

I doubt she would go up the stairs when there is plenty of space to explore in the surrounding areas.

Good luck!

Oh no Donna, i hope you find her Are you absolutely certain that she couldn't be hiding anywhere in the tank,, we've often thought our hognoses have escaped after turning their cages inside out to find them, and all the time they have been hiding under the substrate and somehow avoided being found.

As Rich said, she is more likely to be upstairs in the room where she's kept, or in the adjoining room. Look where it is warm and dark - behind the computer, or tv, behind tanks, near heat sources, under the bed, everywhere, behind videos and chairs.. if you still don't find her there are tricks you can try to get her to come out from wherever she is. And don't be disheartened or too upset yet - Timone, our yellow rat x corn, once escaped when he was a baby (so many more places that he could have squeezed into).. we searched and searched and I thought he was lost forever, but 5 days later he turned up in the same room! Thinking of you, good luck.

awwwwww donna! you are just NOT having good luck lately are you? ..............but don't freak out just yet, i think there are like ways to trap her like bitis said. Something like laying out a F/T or something that you have rubbed a live rat all over so she can smell it. Then put it in some kind of trap or something. Sounds like an idea to me but it'd be nice if others could elaborate on this method.

Best of luck to you *mwah* *hugs*

Well Carly and I have been searching high and low, no sign, im not going to give up yet though, I have gone over and over the tank and there is no escape root, I just dont understand it, as Bruiser is the one thats always trying to escape and he has never managed it, and they have been in that tank a while now, I think she would of got out sdooner if there was a way out..., I was thinking maybe she might of been taken by Chris or someone, my front door was left ulocked the other day and he could of sneaked in, but thats highly unlikely as Bruiser was his favourite and he would of gone too.

I'm baffled

No Rachel... I gave the tank a thorough clean, took all the substrate out and changed it for news paper, and she wasn't there

I'm so sorry, Donna! I know it's terrifying! Ky-Lin was gone for nearly two days when she got out, and the whole time I was afraid we'd never get her back. We put out a bottle trap with a pinky in it, but even though she was past feeding day, she didn't go for it.

When she finally came out we could see that she hadn't gone far at all...we'd put flour around the baseboards and could see from her tracks in it that she had come out from under a bookshelf that's right next to her enclosure. I'm sure Misty must be nearby... *sending hugs and prayers your way*

Is there carpet on the floor in the room? One of the places we had to look was under the edges of our wall to wall carpet because it was possible that Ky-Lin could have nosed her way up under the edge of the carpeting where it meets the baseboards...How big is Misty?

We also checked under the fireplace as well as in the fireplace...

Donna, I am so glad she came home!!!! See, she came right back to her tank, she obviously missed it and you -Now you need to figure out how she escaped and make sure she can't go walkabouts again. I'm really happy for you and I bet you are so relieved.

To be honest, I had a feeling she would come back on her own, she didnt want to be found, Carly and me pulled that front room apart yesterday and there was no sign, plus I sat up last night as long as I could with a torch and looking and there was nothing...

Since I put her back in she has been drinking for about 15 mins, she must be really dehydrated bless, and she looks like she may of eaten something, I could be wrong, but there looks to be a bump near where her lumps are, i am going to examine her over properly once she has had a good drink and warmed up
