Disaster

Well guys,,,,as you know we had 17 Okeetee eggs due to hatch last week. On friday I opened the incubator and all eggs were shrivelled and the temp was over 120 degrees. The incubator obviously malfunctioned regardin the temp settings and the alarm never went off. We opened all 17 eggs and all were viable with 10" babies. 3 of them were alive,,2 just barely and 1 quite active. We placed them in a container and left them overnight hoping they would survive, unfortunately the next morning all had passed on. To loose all 17 after 2 months of anticipation has us extremely bummed. However, Tolkien laid 14 more eggs on tuesday and they are in a home made incubator until the new one arrives (we ordered it sat. through big apple herps)

Aww Ken i'm so sorry to hear that! That is devastating news,. sadly these things sometimes happen, but good luck with the next lot, and well done for trying to save some of this clutch. So sorry again, that's a really hard loss.

I guess that's the disadvantage of not having the manual, it seemed so easy to use. Now that i've investigated getting the new incubator, I find out you need a snap switch and thermostat wafer replacement that needs replacement every so often, I guess that was what went bad and caused the temps to skyrocket.....you live and learn. BTW,, I selected the Hovabator Thermal Air Flow incubator

We all make mistakes Ken, don't blame yourself. We can but learn from our experiences. You did your best, and it was a shame you got so far and then had to face such an upsetting thing, but it happened for a reason.

We just use our own home-made incubator, from a polystyrene box, with heat mat and thermostat, and some boxes of vermiculite.

Good luck with your next clutch, and so sorry again.
