How often do you feed babies?
Tonight my other corn baby shed in almost one piece;I had to help her with the tail.
After that I was so excited,I just had to take them out and feed them! They were very hungry indeed! Gave them one pinky each. Now I'd like some advice, even though I read it in many books, but I'd like to know how you do it:how often do you feed 6-7 month old corns which are about 15" long? I heard of every 5-7 days. What do you think? And I guess just one pinky per feeding!?! The motley was quite calm when I took it out,but the normal wanted to make a runner, but didn't musk me which was very kind, lol. ![]() |

That is correct Jacky. Every 5-7 days for babies as far as how many pinks in one setting, it depends on the size of the corn.

Yep 5-7 days is right,. when ours were babies we fed them every 5 days, then as they moved onto more food items we took to feeding them every 6 days and then every 7 days. It's hard to tell you how much to feed, but the best thing to go on is to feed something which is sized up to one and a half times the thickest part of the snake. Babies start on one pinkie, then usually after several feeds, and one or two sheds, depending on how much the snake has grown, move the snake up to 2 pinkies, then 3 then onto fuzzies and so on.

All the while trying not to overfeed. COrns are notorious gluttens and will eat more than needed (sort of like a dog)

But, remember that when your snake reaches 2 years old, you need to space out the feedings to about every 10 to 12 days, and then at 3, you can start feeding ever 14 days. This is because at these ages, the snakes growth starts to slow down and over feeding will cause obessness, which can lead to helth risks and possible early death.

Obesity, she means.
I feed my hatchlings and juveniles once a week, adults once every two weeks, unless they're breeders and going into brumation--then they eat every week. 1 prey item as big around as the widest part of the snake...possibly 2 if they seem particularly hungry or need more weight on them. |
