cornsnake burrowing

when I went to check on my new corn, boss, i couldnt find him. i took out all the decorations looked under the water bowl and looked under his hides. i was about to have a panic attack because I thought he had escaped the first night I had him. but I looked on his hide on the warm side again and I saw a little gray spot under the substrate, and it was him.
is burrowing normal in corns? im confused cause if it was too hot wouldnt he go to the other side.
it was overnight, so I drop the temps into the mid-low 70's, is that bad cause where they live in the wild thats a pretty normal overnight temp.

Perfectly normal! Corns love to burrow! I have one in particular that just loves to totally destroy his tank on a daily basis. As long as you have a good temperature gradient so that he can move from warm area (80-85) to cool area (70-75) you don't have to deliberately alter the nighttime temps.

okay, ive just never heard of it in any caresheets.
is it alright to lower the temps at night? i would think that would make it more natural

corn snakes arent picky, they are very easy to care for and great beginner snakes for this reason. why do more work ifyou dont need to? (lowering hte temps) i agree with merlin, so long as the snake has a choice, it should be fine my corns like to burrow too

Actually unless you have the heat system on a thermostat the temp will drop some at night just due to the fact that the room temp itself will go down a bit.

my snow corn Blizzard burrows all the time. he loves it so I always know to look under the bedding when I can't find him above. although last night I was ready to have a panic attack as well cuz my baby corn Bullet seemed to be gone. i looked all over then I saw a tiny black and grey head poking out right infront of my eye! i missed him entirely cuz he was under the bedding. lol I never saw him burrow in the bedding before but there he was. now I know where to look for him too if I ever don't see him.
