Cornsnake and Screaming Birds

I've been offerred a free ticket to go visit Greece for the summer, so I'll be gone for an entire month, and a really good friend of mine whom I trust very much knows alot about snakes, having kept one, and is happy to babysit my corn for the summer.
My only concern is that she owns two birds (adorable, but extremely vocal, and one is quite territorial) and I'm not sure if those conditions are alright to put a baby snake in.
Nemean's already pretty timid, even handling him in the same day as feeding day makes him reject his food. The birds won't try to attack him at all, they're just noisy, and will be curious about him.

Does anyone think that this would stress him out too much, or would he have no problem?
It's only for a month, but right after I come back I'll be moving him to my home in Quebec, so he's going to be in for quite a bit.

no, snakes hear by vibrations so the squaking shouldn't bother him unless the birds like go bother to enclosure and bother him.

I agree, as long as the birds leave him alone, the noise shouldn't bother him, perhaps ask if your friend could house him in a seperate room than the birds for your own sanity.

One should not be handling their snake after a meal for at least 24 - 48 hours! Thats a normal response.

Re: Cornsnake and Screaming Birds

I have a bird and he loves to scream (almost constantly). My snakes and my bird are all in my bedroom. My snakes could care less about how much he screams. I got my snakes after I already had the bird, 2 of the 3 were babies and they still didn't care how much the bird screamed.

Firstly, I was referring to handling him before feeding, never within 48hrs after.

Also, no the birds are not in their cages, and they won't attack him, but they'll like to peer into the cage a lot, and might probably land on it.
I'm going to ask my friend to try covering the cage as much as possible so the birds don't see it. Maybe he won't feel so focused on.

Anyways thanks for the advice.

Re: Cornsnake and Screaming Birds

Maybe ask him to put your snake in a different room I wouldn't want to risk the birds stressing your snake any. Also I'm sure they can smell eachother....may also cause stress. And with the birds landing on the cage...well what if they poop into the snakes cage....loads of bacteria.

Re: Cornsnake and Screaming Birds

Definitely a different situation if the birds are not in cages. Having them land on or near the snake cage may cause the snake to see them as predators and become stressed. I too would see if your friend could put the snake in another room.

You don't want to cover up the cage so much where there will not be proper air flow.
