Corn Snake Feeding Panic
Hello all...hoping for some reassurance. My son has Martin, a cornsnake about 5 years old. We have had him about 3 years. This week, for the first time ever, he is not interested in his Monday pinkies. No routines have changed, he has his feeding box and we warm up 2 frozen pinkies which he normally gobbles up, but this week, nothing. We've tried 3 times, even got a new crop from the pet store in case the others were unappealing for some reason. We tried splitting the heads open as well. The snake is otherwise very active, with bright eyes and feels quite strong. He recently shed a few weeks ago. We hope there is a herpcenter member who may have more experience than we do that could shed some light for us?
Thanks for any ideas! |

Re: Corn Snake Feeding Panic
Corns are normally good eaters, though skipping a meal here or there is normal even for young corns. Best would be to just let it go and feed again on the normally scheduled day next week. He should eat without a problem. If not even hatchling corns can go a good 8 weeks without food before you really have to worry.

Re: Corn Snake Feeding Panic
I agree sometimes they just aren't hungry. Wait till the next feeding day and try again.
If I understand, you are feeding an adult cornsnake 2 mouse pinkies a week? This is an inadequate feeding schedule. You should be feeding at least adult mice. My corns take rat pups!

Re: Corn Snake Feeding Panic
2 pinkies for an adult corn is definitely not enough. one of mine is about five years old and he is eating frozen thawed adult mice. pinkies are great for newborns and small juvis but adults need much more. not having enough food can affect his growth and you also run the risk of him striking out of hunger if one of these days he ends up very hungry.
but you don't have to worry about the eating schedule. mine used to eat every week. as they've gotten older they've gone from eating every week to every two weeks. sometimes three weeks but they always end up going back to feeding when they're hungry.
