Corn Snake Morph Question...
Do different corn morphs have different life spans and such?
Do they age at different speeds? Do they have different general attitudes? Is there any real difference in all the corn snake morphs except for the way they look? I'm thinking about getting a corn snake eventually, and I'm just wondering about all this stuff. |

Re: Corn Snake Morph Question...
A corn is a corn regardless of color. They're still the same snake and follow the same rules as the next color. As far as attitude...that's always different between individuals anyway. As a rule corns are fairly docile. There are exceptions when they are demon-spawn...but again...it's an exception...not the rule...:-)
Lifespans and growth rates - just like any living thing...can still vary...but it's general genetics and the level of care they receive and has nothing to do with the color.

Re: Corn Snake Morph Question...
I don't know if there is much of a difference but I have two corns (one snow, one anery).
Blizzard, my snow, was my first snake. I had him since he was little. He has slowed down in growing and he's maybe 4 feet long, it's been awhile since I measured him though. I've had him since '03. Bullet, my anery, I've had since he was little and I've had him since '04. He is rapidly growing and I think he may end up longer than my snow despite my snow being older. But I haven't seen any difference in temperament. Both are very active when they want to be and very lazy when they want to be. lol

Re: Corn Snake Morph Question...
I didn't think life spans would have anything to do with the color, but the different genetics that come with the different colors.
If there are even different genetics with different colors... I don't know how to explain my question here really. :\ |

Re: Corn Snake Morph Question...
Genetics has everything to do with the different colors. It's what gives me blond hair (ok...slightly graying and disguised as blond) and my dad who had almost black hair.
This is how I understand morphing - To get morphs they first have to be inbred. This can weaken the genetics of that generation. I don't know in what ways since I think I only have a grasp of the basics. Those flaws are then bred back out once the desired morphs are created to different bloodlines making a stronger animal again. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. So I guess it can be possible that you might get one of the genetically weaker ones.

Re: Corn Snake Morph Question...
Okay yeah that's what I thought.
I figured they would need to be imbred to get the colors you want. I just wondered if the imbreeding would create snakes that were more different from one color to another. You know what I mean? |

Re: Corn Snake Morph Question...
Goodness, I want a corn snake so bad. lol
My rough green snake doesn't like to be held, and I don't wanna stress him out, but I want a snake I can hold, and corn snakes are the prettiest. I'm jealous that you have two. Hah. |

Re: Corn Snake Morph Question...
There's really no difference in all but one corn morph Bloodreds tend to be smaller and less likely to feed when young based on just what you have stated. The have been line breed for so long to keep the Defused gene ( the gene that causes the side pattern loss in bloodreds) very defined in the morph. This seems to be the only morph where the effect lessens when bred out side of it's own line. ie. when a Defused gene carrier bred to normal and then the F2 are bred back together. Their children will show less affect from the gene than if the carrier was bred to another gene carrier.
