Eggs??
hello everyone,
I have a 4 ft corn, today I was cleaning out his ( what I thought was his) cage and replacing the substrate. As I was, i found about nine what I think are eggs and after looking at some pics they are eggs. I have what I thought was a male and this is the only snake that I own. why would she have laid eggs? I put them back where I found them because I didnt know what to do and I dont want to stress her out. I finished replacing the substrate and now she has buried herself. I replaced her undertank heater yesterday and she is currently burrowed over it. I dont know if she was getting closer to the heat because the substrate was cold or what. any info would be a great help thanks in advance |

Re: Eggs??
I have never considered breeding corns so I haven't done any real reading on egg laying. How old was the corn when you got her? Has she ever been housed with a male? Some reptiles have the ability to retain sperm until they are comfortable with the environment. Once comfortable, they can they draw on the sperm to fertilize their eggs.
I am not certain if corns will lay eggs without a mate having been present, so you have me on that aspect. My 8 year old female has never laid eggs, but she has never been with a male either. |

Re: Eggs??
Most snakes don't lay without ever being with a male. It's a fair chance that all the eggs are fertile. If you turned the eggs the embryo is most likely dead. if not then you could try to incubate the eggs and see if you get any to hatch or freeze them if you don't want hatchlings.

Re: Eggs??
I have never heard about corns laying eggs without having been with a male either.
None of my females have ever done it.
