We Went a Little Corn Snake Crazy

And got 2 more...one is a baby baby and the other is around the same size as our other one...I'm really confused because the guy at the snake store was really well informed about them and gave us a tiny pinky for the baby but when we gave it to her, she wrapped her jaws around the center of it, but then kind of gave up and slithered away from it...Any suggestions? the pinky was kind of twitching still but definatly dead. It seems like it might be too big but I don't know! What do you all do? we're going to have pictures tomorrow, our friend decided to flake. But the two new ones are a blood corn and a snow corn. They're beauties. Our original one is a female, and our two new ones, the snow is a girl and the other is a male. Help out with the feeding would be greatly appreciated!

Re: We Went a Little Corn Snake Crazy

First off, leave the snake alone.
You should put new snakes in the enclosures and not bother them for a week. No handling, no mussing about, nothing.
With the stress of the relocation if the snake had fed it would probably have regurgitated.
Please tell me you aren't going to try to put them all in a tank together.
The new ones should be quarantined.

We're not putting them together yet until theyre closer to the same size.
But yeah, we'll leave them alone. We were just trying to feed them. Hah, the male is really energetic, is there a difference in personalities between sexes, usually? I'm excited. Can't wait to show them to you all.

Re: We Went a Little Corn Snake Crazy

Just remember there are documented cases of cornsnakes eating other cornsnakes. Its not as common as with kings and milks but it does happen.

Re: We Went a Little Corn Snake Crazy

i would be iffy about putting them together. they might get along now as babies but in the future as they grow, they may not tolerate each other and, as Merlin has stated, corns have been known to eat other corns. plus if it turns out they are male and female, you may find them trying to breed earlier than they are ready for, resulting in stress and possible problems for them. and if you have to males sometimes you can have dominance issues. i would really have the available space to separate them, its a must for any species where you want to house 2 or more together because there's always that chance that they will not tolerate each other at all.

i also think it is harder to monitor who is pooping, shedding, etc. if one ends up getting a sickness or parasites its so much easier for it to transfer to a cagemate. when both of my corns reached the same size I tried putting them together but they did not tolerate each other one bit!

Re: We Went a Little Corn Snake Crazy

Thanks, we have extra tanks incase of a problem in the future, I think as long as there in a large tank with plenty of hides and branches and there not fighting and not sick and the same size there couldnt be anything wrong with that, Ollies brother has two together in a small tank and there doin fine.

Re: We Went a Little Corn Snake Crazy

yes but just because one person does it doesn't mean all corns are like that. so i'm glad you have a back up incase it doesn't work. you can't judge all corns the same just because someone you know did that. i'm glad I didn't do it because right off I saw my corns weren't going to get along, they acted aggressive towards each other.

hopefully you won't need the extra tank but its a good thing to have.

Yeah and we definatly don't have the baby in with the other two. That one has a lovely tank made out of a plastic drawer. haha
