My daughter had a 40 gallon for her cornsnake, but I don't believe it's absolutely necessary to have one so large. If you liked though, you could always get a bigger one later on...
i have 2 corns and both of them climb a fair bit, i know its not a common thing but just thoguht I throw in my experiences

Re: First Corn Snake

wow that`s a beautiful snake. I can`t wait for mine to get that big. I have only had my cornsnakes for a few weeks and noticed that there very active and entertaining. Our female stays burried most of the time and our male stays up in some leaves towards the top of the enclosure most of the time but they do move around alot especially at night.

Well, I guess I should have said that while they can climb they don't really need to, and they can be very clumsy. Mine would go up, and then they'd come down hard and fast when they inevitably fell. Maybe it was just my snakes, but they made me real worried they'd hurt themselves climbing too high. So based on my own experiences, I wouldn't recommend anything tall for climbing for a corn snake.

Re: First Corn Snake

Corns are known climbers and it is not unusual to see wild ones up in trees and in the rafters of old barns.
But it is not required for them to climb like more arboreal species.

Yes, they do climb in the wild, don't they? We had a wild one in our neighborhood that climbed up on top of a friend's screen door. It fell on him when he opened the door and scared him half to death. Then he thought it was a rattlesnake because the corn did an excellent impression of one until my husband and I came and moved the snake for him since he was afraid to touch it. They do an awesome rattlesnake impression sometimes with that tail rattling!

Re: First Corn Snake

Just wanted to touch the subject about ordering online. I have never done it either. I was looking into ordering a boa offline and a friend of mine who's been breeding larger snakes like boas, burmese pythons, retics, and so fourth advised me not to order online due to the fact that you cannot handle them before you by, and you want to handle them in 90º temps because if the snake is cold it is less active and he's seen people buy online and get the snake and because it hasnt been in steady 90º temps its less active and seemed to be fine, but once it had been in a tank for several days that was 90+ on the warm and 75+ on the cool when the owner would pick them up to handle they would end up with a very aggressive snake that likes to bite. But it's not that it happens all the time, its just overall better to be able to handle a snake before you purchase them for many of reasons, which I agree with. But don't let me discourage you, just thought i'd add my two cents and see if anyone else has ever been told or read anything like that... The best of luck with your new corn, hope he/she brings you much joy.
