Corn Snake Headbutting Viv
hey I have had a corn snake for a few months now and everything is going fine, except the last few nights shes woken me up burrowing under the substrate and thrashing around and forcing her head into the side of the viv, its like she does not realise she cant go through the glass??
i know they do this when they are trying to break the skin off to slough, but shes not due a shed and she has not gone through her blue phase yet, so im just curious as to what shes playing at?? any ideas or is she just trying to keep me from getting a good nights sleep lol, thanks in advance for the replies. |

Reptiles have a hard time understanding the concept that, even though they can see thru it, they can't go thru it! And yes the snake is looking for a way out. When I first started keeping snakes I had a shelving unit in my bedroom. There were six enclosures three feet from my bed. I would hear them banging around all night long! ![]()

Re: Corn Snake Headbutting Viv
try adding a band of some type of border along the bottom. something that it can't see through maybe an inch or two wide. may help, or it may just try going out above it, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Re: Corn Snake Headbutting Viv
shes about 6 months now and approximately 18 inches long and the viv is 18(w) x 6(h) x 10(d), i know she could get any where between 3 and 5 feet when shes adult, is there any particular rule you use when getting the right size, i have read a few different things on diferent forums but everyone seems to think they know everything yet none of them ever agree!! thank you for your quick replies, a lot better than other forums I have been on!

Re: Corn Snake Headbutting Viv
Your snake is ready for an upgrade. You need a larger enclosure.
A 20 gal long tank will be sufficient for the rest of her life. Of course bigger is always better.
