general behavior

i was wondering what is the general behavior of a corn snake. like can they be handled or do they like to be left alone, are they aggressive toward people meaning your hand, how active are they, when are they active, do they prefer to climb or just chill on the ground? im just looking into them because I want to eventually get a snake and from what I understand they are a good snake for beginner snake keepers.

They have different behaviors and personalities just like people, mine are easily handled and don't have any tendancie toward biting, however some are more aggressive, care wise, they are as easy to take care of.

heres my .02

Get a ball python ive had mine since the 22 of january and im in love with him hes great.
One flaw though they are said to be feniccey eaters on your first try there even said to not eat on the first day but that all depends on your snake and the conditions it lives in becouse mine ate on the first day.

Its not just the way they live balls will normally go off feed its just the way they are You was lucky to get your ball to eat on the first day but shouldn't of feed it all reptiles should be left for a week min to settle in.To the op cornsnakes are all diffrent in tempriment I had one that was handled often and was really cage aggressive as soon as out of cage it was fine.My new corn is great and calm even if not handled regualy I handle once a week normaly with her.

Cornsnakes are, in my opinion, the best beginner snake there is. As a general rule they are one of the most docile snakes and are easily handled. I prefer to start out with hatchlings and raise them being used to me. Since most, if not all, cornsnakes are now captive bred they have been around humans since day one and are not as jittery as a wild one would be. They do tend to be a bit squirmy as babies but they mellow as they get older but will always be an active snake. They are not something you can just hang around your neck and chill. They are always on the move.
Now if you mistreat or frighten them they are capable of biting, as is any animal with teeth. However I have several corns and none of them have ever so much as struck at me.
If given the opportunity they will climb but it isn't essential the way it is with more arboreal species. They are fine on the ground.
Cornsnakes as a species are considered nocturnal but mine are active at all hours of the day or night. It is not unusual for me to look over at the enclosures and see them watching me.
Corns are a perennial favorite and one of my personally favorite snakes!
I cannot recommend them highly enough.

my opinion... i'd say GET A CORN. i have a corn snake and I LOVE him/her? i think it's a girl. lol. but she is the nicest thing ever. i let my little sister hold her when she was only 2. the only time I ever got bit... was when it was a baby and once after feeding I got careless when I grabbed her to put her back in her cage from her feeding box. now I just let her crawl out and then pick her up and she's fine. and I have NEVER had a problem getting her to eat anything. i feed her small rats if they are small enough otherwise 3 mice.

We have both corns and a ball. I have had problem with both eating, you just get to know the personality of the snake and when it could go off food. We have a 3 year old corn who is very calm and loves to be held, she'll rap around your arm. Our yearling, has just calmed down, he isn't trying to get away from me any more (this happened from one week to the next) our hatchling is extremely wiggle, which I'm sure she will out grow. Balls can be really shy and curl up in a tight "ball" when scared. Ours has finally gotten so he doesn't do this when we take him out of the cage.
