Digital thermometer cord?
I've finally got a couple of digital thermometers (and I'd like to get two more too for the other sides of the enclosures) to use instead of the round regular ones, but I worry that with the thermometer cord inside the tank all the time that one of the snakes will somehow get tangled up and hurt himself since they climb so much. Is this a stupid thing to worry about?
Where is the best place to put the probe? The top of the tank wall (as I saw pictured somewhere) or at the bottom (this means more cord inside the tank, which worries me even more)? Or is somewhere in the middle the best?
Thank you for your help!

Im pretty sure that the probe measures ambient temps, so you don't need it too precise. I do think that the middle would produce the most accurate readings.
I don't see the chord posing any threat, I have had chords, air tubes, lights, even rope at one point in time and had no troubles.

do you mean the little cord thats attached to the probe or is thier something esle?
if it has to be in the tank you could put a peice of elecrical tape over it and tape it to the glass if you dont want it loose. i started taping my extension cords to the floor like that when I got tired of tripping over them, except I used duct tape for those

I run all my in tank cord through bamboo. It looks better and if they climb it, it doesn't matter.

What a cool idea! What kind of store sells bamboo? Do you have any pictures of what you've done with it?

You can get bamboo canes in hobby stores or garden centers (where they are used for stakes for holding up plants). There is also a form of cane that grows around here that has been planted as landscape plants but has naturalized in some places.
What I do with the cord is to put a couple of peices of velcro on the glass in one of the corners and then put the other side of the velcro over it sandwiching the cord in the middle. This holds it in place and fairly taught.

Some craft stores and flower stores sell bamboo. I just use a circular saw to cut it to length, then very carefully cut a groove lengthwise down the bamboo to allow for the cord. I'll get some pics together.
