Yes, it's a ten gallon...but 10 and 1/4 inches seems so far for such an itty bitty snake to fall, and you're right, paper towels aren't very cushiony. I think I'll keep the tree out and find him something else to play with...I like the paper towels as substrate too much to want to change to something else. It's so easy to spot when it needs cleaning, whereas when we used bark, I had to dig and hunt to find the messes. I'm going to look for a nice hollow ceramic jack-o-lantern with cut out eyes, nose and mouth for Pumpkin Jack to use as a hide on that side of the tank. Considering his name, I think it would fit, and it is the season after all.

He'll be able to climb on top of it too, I would think, and falling off wouldn't be so dangerous because I'll make sure it's not too tall.
