Falling a couple of inches in a tank is not a big deal.
The climbing "tree" is 10 and 1/4 inches...is this too high? Will he get hurt falling that far? Maybe I should keep the tree out and get something shorter...

Its a 10 gallon hes in isnt it, it shouldnt be a problem, mind you you are using paper towels so his fall wont be as cushioned, when mine have fallen they have qute a bit of substrate down, and that sort of breaks the fall, if your really worried move the tree, but a ten gallon isnt really that high, you should of seen the size of tank my baby king was temporarily housed it was massive, and he was falling all the time off the side door and little round vents it had, hes a real acrobat, hes perfectly fine though, hes now in a smaller one,

its when people hold them and drop them from a height onto a floor thats more worrying and could do the damage, or if he was in a really big tank with a lot of height, i think he is ok in his 10 gallon, the height isnt that great.

Yes, it's a ten gallon...but 10 and 1/4 inches seems so far for such an itty bitty snake to fall, and you're right, paper towels aren't very cushiony. I think I'll keep the tree out and find him something else to play with...I like the paper towels as substrate too much to want to change to something else. It's so easy to spot when it needs cleaning, whereas when we used bark, I had to dig and hunt to find the messes. I'm going to look for a nice hollow ceramic jack-o-lantern with cut out eyes, nose and mouth for Pumpkin Jack to use as a hide on that side of the tank. Considering his name, I think it would fit, and it is the season after all. He'll be able to climb on top of it too, I would think, and falling off wouldn't be so dangerous because I'll make sure it's not too tall.
