Digital SLR recommendation
I want to buy my SO a digital slr for his birthday in May... any recommendations?
I would like a quality piece for a reasonable price. I have NO idea what one would cost, but I would like to get a telephoto or macro lens too. Thanks for the help!

Nonestly you can't go wrong with a canon rebel XT or XTi. The XT's are running about $300 less then the XTi's right now because they are going to stop making them soon, but honestly I prefer the XT to the XTi. The XTi has 2 more megapixels but they also adjusted things a removed feautres that I really can't function without
The rebel is probably the cheapest dSLR you will find. Also alot of them come with the 'kit' lens that is 18-55mm which is suitable for general stuff. a 75-300mm telephoto is usually a very affordable tele lens($250-ish), i'm not super fond of it but Phil loves his. I have a 100mm Macro lens by canon which I love to bits. It is the best gift I ever got, but it rins about $450. When looking at lenses offbrands like Sigma and Tamron are great, I dont know many other off brands just make sure it had the right mount for the camera.

I've played with the Canon Rebels a bit and like them as well for function and price. Lots of lenses for them as well. Usually there are quite a few used lenses to buy because they are pretty popular. Maybe you can find a real good deal like 2 for 1 and send me one.

I like the Rebels as well. We just bought one for work (that I get to play with
) and the bundle we got - the camera, the lens, a UV filter lens, a close up lens, a tri-pod, a memory card and the camera backpack cost a total of around $1,300.

B&H Photo video, OneCall.com - HDTV, Home Theater, Camera or Digital Camera Reviews and News: Digital Photography Review: Forums, Glossary, FAQ are all good sites to check out. the latter just has the best reviews out there and a good link to reputable dealers.

I prefer Nikon cameras. I think their lense qualities are much better. This model is a new one at 10.2 MP and on sale at Ritz Camera too. If I had the extra money I'd buy it myself!

Re: Digital SLR recommendation
Here's what I wound up getting Ken for his birthday: eBay: CANON REBEL EOS SILVER XT WITH 18-55MM LENS & 20 PIECES (item 130107705791 end time May-06-07 16:04:20 PDT)
It came last week, and I gave it to him early... wanted to make sure it works. He's getting used to it. It totally FREAKS me out that lenses can cost more than I paid for that kit!! Well, slow and steady gets the lenses we want! ![]()
