This big? How big?!

Ok. I'm frusterated. I have spent hours and hours going from boa site to boa site trying to get a good lock on sizes ext... and I am starting to go insane.

I want a boa, I adore boas... I would like a Hog Island, but it is next to impossible to find any over here that are under $200, and I just can't afford that. Red tails are amazing, well priced and I could buy it locally. However, I really can't, and do not desire, to take care of something that gets to be over 8ft. 6ft would be ideal. Anyway, some sites are telling me 12 feet for the females... while some are giving a minimum of 6. One of the more respectible sites said that captive bred boas only get to be huge if overfed. I suppose what I am getting at is: Is it possible and healthy to control the growth of your boa by restricting their food intake, and if not...

How big can they actually get?

Adult red tails can get between 8-12 feet normally I belive some have been reported bigger these are the females males are smaller even though I have heard of a 10ft male, common boas the females get normally a max of 8ft.

You cannot control the size with how you feed or the size of the enclosure (unless you starve the animal) The mainland Boas (red tail boa's peruvians, columbian,,,etc) are larger than the Island boas (hoggs). Expect 6-9 feet for a mainland with the females being larger. You won't be able to predict it's size til it is full grown. My advice ? save for a Hogg if ya want a smaller boa.

Its not healthy to withhold food or power feed. Boas should be fed weekley, you dont want them to have health problems due to underfeeding, if you dont think youll have the room for atleast an 8 foot boa in 2 years I dont reccomend getting one...my boa grew 10 inches in a month...just a thought..thier average growth rate is about 2-3 ft a year I believe

on average.. you can expect 6-8ft for males, 7 to 9 for females.. there are always the cases of a little bit bigger or smaller, but not normaly... a 12 ft boa constrictor imperator is a exceptionaly big one
