    Sick Boa?

Ok, I'm not sure if my boa is sick. Info.
    1. He's a rescue, so I just got him this week
    2. He's 6 feet
    3. Cage temp. is 95F on the hotside and 78F on the coldside
    4. Humidity is between 50 and 60 percent depending on the time of day.
    5. I'm using a heatlamp, no undertank heater.
    6. Cage size 4feet by 2feet by 3feet
    7. Just ate 2 med. rats

Well that's all I can think of right now for info on the boa. The problem is he's got a wheeze and looks like pink spots on his belly and sides. I went to the vet and they dont know whats wrong with him so they decide to do a blood sample and Ill hear back from them later this week. So I was hoping someone here could give me some thoughts on what could be wrong.

I don't know about the wheeze but my red tail boa gets a red belly when she is getting ready to poop.

it's also common in boas before shedding. Pink belly.

Sounds like the same situation I have. The vet will probably suggest a broad spectrum antibiotic.

well I hope he doesn't end up having inclusion body disease, which the vet was thinking it could be but I don't think it is. Theirs plenty of other things out there that could be causing him to wheeze and show signs of inclusion body disease when it really isn't.

It sounds like a RI but if he isw eating still I could be wrong. Mine didn't eat but hers was very sereve when I got her. She was abandomed in a house and the new owners found her in their basement 2 months after they moved in.

Just keep the heat up and wait for the vets response.

Hows it going with your boa? mine had a wheeze and a good friend of mine, whos a herper and has tons herps, came over and had a look. He recommended uping her heat some and that made a big difference. Looks like your heat is good though. Maybe check for any drafts that might be getting to your snake sometimes that's a cause.

He's still wheezing and has pink spots on the belly but other then that he's fine still active and he's eating without vomitting so that's good. Ill have to call the vet tomorrow and find out whats going on with his blood sample. Oh and yes I did bump the heat up a bit in his cages so I'm hoping that will help for now.

    Re: Sick Boa?

Arrrrg! the vet is being a real problem. They finally call and and the have no real answer for the blood sample cause the vet that did the sample wasn't in to explain and so now they think the boa has pneumonia and that we should bring him in to get put under so they can do a wash to get culture samples and do a culture test so they can see what infection me may have. Well to do that its going to cost me $359.00 to have them test the boa and tell me all he need is this $20.00 bottle of meds..... I feel as if the vet is just pulling everything they can to get money out of me and not really help my snake....
