i am looking for suggestions for substrates to use in a 30 gal. long tank tank will provide the best heat entrapment. i am planning on using an under tank heater and a 100 watt bulb. my gf uses reptile carpet for her bp, but I am not sure this is the best for a red tail boa. please let me know!

We use aspen for the smaller snakes, but the larger snakes such as the common boa, we just use newspaper, as aspen is impractical, would cost far too much money and time to change each week!
You could also try paper towels or the carpet or lino,. we prefer the paper though. Although its not as aesthetically pleasing, it is practical, cheap and useful - it provides one big hide, since the snakes can also go underneath it to hide ![]()

i use bed-a-beast or eco-turf for most all of my animals
for my conda - i can have it keep mosture really well as he needs - or even in my savannahs home - mix it with a little sand and it functions well as dryer turf too its that stuff that comes in a "cube" that you add water to and it expands and forms a "spongy" material if used right.
