Hiding Place

OK, Roxy needs a better hide-a-way. I won't build one so that's why I didn't post in general construction. But I have looked and does anyone have any suggestions where I can buy one? My local dealers are remiss, at best. She's getting bigger. Last I heard she was 7-7 1/2 feet. I haven't measured her. But, anyway, that's a lot of hiding. I tried a cardboard cutout (don't ask me where I got that idea). She was not impressed. Any leads would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Hiding Place

You could try what I did for my Carpet Python.
Buy a cheap rubbermaid (opaque not clear like a sterlite) I used the small rubbermaid roughneck tote.
Turn the rubbermaid over, and with either a small saw, or a serrated knife saw off the handles for the rubbermaid, Then cut a opening to fit into one of the short sides, from the bottom (top of the container) up. after thats finished just sand down any sharp edges , set into enclosure, and if you use a loose substrate you can even bury the rim so its not visible.

Thats the hide he's going into there.

Re: Hiding Place

I do the same with my larger boas, a rubbermaid roughneck is my hide of choice !!!!!

Re: Hiding Place

I just use empty boxes. A box from 24 cans of Sprite with a hole cut out. My boa seems to like that box the best. It isn't pretty but she's happy. I also put a bigger, studier box over it so she can climb up and bask. The Sprite box is to soft for that.

Re: Hiding Place

We have the critter castles for our snakes, I believe they are actually made for hamsters and guinea pigs, but we use them successfully for snakes. We have even made a "condo" for them by putting a small igloo shaped one on top of a large igloo shaped one (we used screws to attach it). The snake at the girls' college didn't care for cardboard hides either, so we bought him a castle, and he loves it, and loves climbing on it and hiding in it. We were happy, as it was also on sale and I didn't have to smooth the edges on the opening like I did the rubbermaid.
