Re: Red Tail Boa
If you notice that she is really losing weight and looking thin, you will probably want to get her in to see a vet, specifically one that has experience with herps. She may have some sort of parasite that's causing her to not eat and lose weight.
It will also help if you give us the run down on her enclosure. Temps, substrate, size, how long you've had her, etc. The more info you give us, the better the chances someone will be able to catch something you may have missed or give further suggestions.

Re: Red Tail Boa
Welcome to Herp Center. I agree that a vet visit to a herp vet is imperative at this point. Best wishes and keep us posted.

Re: Red Tail Boa
Hi Christen. I had a Ball Python that didn't eat for 6 months. After many tests and visits to the vet, we could not find any reason for her lack of an appetite. Then one day
I ran into a pet store that I don't normally visit. In conversation with the keeper, I mentioned my dilemma. The Pet Store keeper asked me if I had tried a product called "Jump Start". I had never heard of it. So I opted to give it a try. After 5 days (3times a day) of sticking the Jump Start applicator tube into my BP throat and squeezing the product in, with a syringe of fresh water behind it to wash it down, my BP began eating again. She now eats a medium sized rat every 2 weeks. She sheds nearly every 6 weeks and is continuing to grow. I'm not saying don't see a vet, that should be the first step, but if the vet gives your snake a clean bill of health, try the "Jump Start" product. It's not expensive and it worked for me. By the way, I own 5 snakes. My Ball Python, a Jungle Carpet, a Brazilian Rainbow Python, a Columbian Red-tail Boa, and an Everglade Rat snake. They are all doing quite well. GOOD LUCK! |
