Updates!!

Hey guys! I thought that I'd update you all on the babies that were born on May 1st. To date, only two of the babies have survived. I am starting to think that there is something genetic going on as to why they are dying. Or maybe not, since the three that have passed seem to have died from totally different things.
The first baby that died's intestines seemed to have herniated through its umbilical slit.
The second baby that died seemed to have nothing wrong with it.
And the third baby, that died just a couple days ago, wow, that was the worst. We came home to an apartment that was filled with the stench of death. We immediately looked over all of our animals, and they were alright. We the knew that it had to be one of the babies. We looked in their tank, and sure enough, one of them was deceased. I don't understand how it stank so much so quickly, because when we found it, it wasn't stiff at all. We picked it up out of the tank, and noticed that it's belly was extremely engorged. Then I saw that a substance that looked like blood and water dripping out of its nose. It was a substantial amount that came out in the 30 seconds or so that we had had it out. Poor little thing. I'm wondering if it had something to do with it's last meal.
So now we are left with two, and I am really hoping that they can make it. One of them has eaten every time that we have fed them, and is growing fine. On the other hand, the second one hasn't eaten at all, due to what is expected to be remaining yolk in it's belly. They are both active, so I guess time will tell their fate. I am pretty sure that the one that has eaten every time will be taken to the pet shop where we purchased their mother, Jasmine, to be sold back.
Here are some updates on my other boas.
Jasmine, the mother, is blue again. This will be her second shed since the birth. I hope that this ones goes smoother than the first one, which took weeks, and shredded into tons of pieces.
Kah, my Colombian/Hog Island mix is blue as well, and he seems to be favoring the darker blue colors of the Hog Island side lately.
Everyone else is doing fine! I will attempt to take some pictures after the sheds, and of the babies.
Thanks for reading my post!

Wow, what a handful. I'm sorry for the ones you lost. I hope the remaining two stay strong. I can't wait to see the pictures.

Re: Updates!!

I'm sorry that only two survived. The last death would set me worrying about disease. You might want to take them to a vet, just in case. That sounded pretty bad.

Re: Updates!!

If I recall properly, the mother was in poor shape during at least part of the pregnancy. It may just be that this batch of babies had something go wrong in their development.

Re: Updates!!

This is what I am thinking, Merlin. Something just isnt right with the babies. On another forum, somone told me about a litter that her friend had. One of them had some problems with the intestines not being connected right.
