27 Day Old Neonates Not Eating Yet
For you breeders out there, what is the longest time that a neonate has gone without eating for the first time?
I have four that were born May 1st of this year, and two have them have already eaten. I am worried about the other two though. One of them still had a yolk sack attatched when it was born. Could it be possible that it it is still feeding off the nutrients from it because it absorbed it later than the others? The other one that hasn't eaten yet is having problems with is first shed. He shed all but about two or three inches when he was about 13 or so days old. I have tried everything that I can think of to help it shed the rest, but nothing is working. It seems that it is still connected in some spots as if it is still "new" skin. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: 27 Day Old Neonates Not Eating Yet
The pillowcase trick always seems to work. Take a towel and wet it really well. Then wring out the extra water and toss it in a pillowcase. Now take the snake and place him in the pillowcase too. Tie the end of the pillowcase, and place it in a warm area. The moisture in there, and the friction of the snake moving around will remove any shed that is stuck.
Leaving the snake overnight typically does the trick. |

Re: 27 Day Old Neonates Not Eating Yet
Thanks for your reply! Now I have to wait to do this, as the one with the shedding problems just ate!
The other snake that didn't eat last week, didn't eat this week either, as well as one of the ones that ate last week. I am pretty sure he hasn't digested enough of last weeks meal, as I did notice a bit of a lump. Hopefully he is not having problems. How long would it normally take for a neonate to digest a fuzzy? I know that snakes have different metabolisms, but should it be taking over a week???
