Re: A New Life for a Neglected Boa

Yea, thats the only thing I can think of. I mean, the kid used to breed and sell lizards, and even worked at a reptile farm for a while. I don't doubt that he knows how to care for any of them, its like he just decided to stop caring but didn't want to give them up.

As for where the kid is, his parents said he is in New York for a few weeks and they decided to do some cleaning in the basement to get ready for a yard sale when they found all the animals dead. I can't imagine he had the parents doing the feeding, theres no way I would believe that dozens of healthy animals would starve to death and dry up in such a short time. It had to be going on when he was at home still too.

They said they would call me if they decided against keeping anything else. I really don't have any space for anything more here though. So if they do offer something, I'll take it and see if anybody on the site here wants it.

Anyway, the snake has an appointment at a vet in a few hours.

Good lord,, that is terrible!! I would be opening up a can of woop, weel you know the rest, on my kid. But then again it is their responsibility to make sure he cares for anything in their home. If the child is under 18 animal control will not be looking for him.

Not so much sad as disgusting, how can the owner not feel bad? Did they forget that animals need to eat... horrible

Re: A New Life for a Neglected Boa

Just got back from the vet. She said he seems pretty healthy despite being dehydrated, skinny, and having the infection. He was quite active for them and still pretty strong. She took a mouth swab to culture, gave him a few shots to help rehydrate him and gave me some antibacterial injections to give him.

Hopefully he will make a full recovery.

At this point the question has to be, what were the parents thinking?
This kid had all these animals in the basement and left for a few weeks? Nobody was taking care of them?
Did the parents think that the "cricket fairy" was coming by in the middle of the night and caring for them?

At least you got the boa out! If it still has enough "umph" to struggle during the vet exam it sounds like there is still a good chance for a recovery!

Re: A New Life for a Neglected Boa

That sounds great! When I got three of them in last year, Wing and Prayer were the only ones that had a little fight in them. Poor Patty just laid there, she had totally given up on life, it was really heartbreaking!

I am glad that he will recover, and good for you for helping him!

I am so glad you got him. I think he will do well in your care. Good luck with him. Those animals did not deserve that.

Re: A New Life for a Neglected Boa

Thank God you got her! She wouldn't have stood a chance. I won't comment on my opinions about the idiot or his parents, but when I become Queen of the World, as it should be, I have special plans for people who abuse the defenseless. I think she'll be fine but it will cost some money and time. Everything is probably gone so there may be no point in calling Animal Control but his parents should work with you on the vet bill and medicine.
