I don't know what's up with this girl. The last 3 jumbo rats I had in her cage have been wasted. I went to the pet store today and bought all the rats that weren't white. The last 3 were white. Of course, now the owner thinks I am even nuttier than he originally thought. I have a medium rat in her tank now. She usually eats when we are sleeping (she is one of those girls that orders salad on a date then goes home and scarfs a box of doghnuts) so I will go to bed very soon. However, if she doesn't eat this rat I am going to start stressing out. She still looks good. 25 -30 pounds. Her skin is good and she is very active at night. When do I officially worry???

How long has it been since she has eaten? How many days do you go before trying to feed again? Has she pooed since the last time she ate? What are your temps. The more info the better.

Agreed, we need alot more info before we can assist. By the brief description you gave your girl is nowhere near the worrying point. My female Peruvian went almost 2 months this fall and didn't seem to loose an ounce !!!!

She hadn't given me any decent poop (did that just become an appropiate phrase? ) since her last eating which was almost 8 weeks ago. I gave her several XXX jumbo large white rats and she toyed with them but had no interest. I defrosted them perhaps too quickly or warmed them up too much. I don't know. But Monday night I gave her a large brown rat that she ate when I was at work on Tuesday. Oh, she is used to the predisposed, if that matters. I know that is not enough so I gave her another one Teusday night and she ate that when I was at work today. So I feel a bit better. Even with the XXX jumbos they don't leave an impact on her. She really is probably ready to move up in the food chain but I have to get a better handle on this. I'm thinking, she prefers room temperature defrosted, NOT WHITE, food. I am going to order some of those online if I can pick my color before I move on to bigger dinner. She is a large snake. 25ish pounds and 7 1/2 - 8ish feet long. Uber-friendly.

Liz, I think you are right but I'm hesitant if she won't take the rats. I am convinced that she doesn't like the white ones. The guy at the pet store thinks I'm nuts. Big surprise. Picky brat. I'm defrosting another one because she has been outside playing quite a bit the last 2 days and we are going out again. If she eats more and I am right on the color thing, maybe I will try something in between.

i used to work in a pet store and i've had customers come in and specify that they do not want rats that are white because their snakes won't eat them. you're not nuts lol i've experienced it personally. some snakes and lizards will not eat white rodents for whatever the reason. good luck!

Thank you all for your input. I am happy to report Little Miss Piggy has eaten every non white rat that the owner gave me last week (3 small, 2 large and now she is enjoying a jumbo). It's an odd piece of information to have, but I guess I needed it.
