my young columbian Neo hasnt pooped in almost 2 weeks... as stated in the title.

if any of you have seen my previous posts about this snake, he had a troubled start. bad cases of mites and regular force feedings at the pet store for almost 6 months until he started eating on his own again. hes at least 6 months old now about 1/2 to 1/3 the size of snakes that are almost half his age.

he has eaten 3 mice, all lumps have vanished, he doesnt look like hes retaining 3 mice worth of waste in there, and the area before his vent doesnt seem bloated like it is with my other snake before he goes #2. ive checked through his enclosure pretty thoroughly, the only way i could possibly be missing it is if he burries himself in the substrate to go and then crawls out once hes done.

my question is, is it ok or normal for a young snake who is trying to catch up in growth to not poop for a couple weeks?

my ball goes every month and we feed him two small rats.... so i wouldnt think theres anything wrong but i dont know much about columbians sooo.....heh....

Two weeks is no big deal. Their metabolism is slooooooooooow!
If you are concerned fill the bathtub with a couple of inches of lukewarm water and let the snake swim for a bit. This often stimulates them to let go.

im not sure what i was thinking, its been just over 3 weeks, not under 2 as i had stated, and he is just slightly larger than a hatchling due to his condition. However, i gave him another mouse and he is eating it as we speak... er.. um... type. So that makes 4 mice since i have found feces in the viv, and he is still very active and seems perfectly normal. so if u say the metabolism is slow ill just have to believe you. i figured it was as much so i wasnt panicing yet. thanks guys.


im just used to Jack, my corn who goes once a week like clockwork.

LOL There is a big difference in colubrid metabolism and boids.
I wish there was as much time between defications with THEM!

thanks again. now im just wondering whats going to happen to the poor guy once he finally does go...... hes got 4 adult mice worth of waste in him and hes only about as big around as a nickel at his widest point...... hes gunna turn himself inside out!

I have been out of touch for a while. However, I have the same concerns for my own Boa,Roxy. I change her water tub everyday and have seen some results. When she is active and/or soakng I have gotten some defication. She soaks quite a bit so I change her water for urination, just in case. Everyone else certainly is more knowledgeable than I, but do you have a water area for your snake? Especially coming from a bad environment, it may want the security of privacy, like when we are sleeping or at work. Just a thought.

it wasnt his environment that was bad, this pet store is actually one of my favorites just because the guys in charge of each section are incredibly good at what they do (which.... consequently.... there are a series of air headed college girls who work in the puppy department........) they got a batch of dirty something in and got mites to a few of their enclosures is all. this little guy just had a rough start, but they kept him going.

anyways, he has a waterbowl that is plenty big enough for him to soak..... he prefers to hide underneath it though... i have yet to see him soak in it. although i do think you are on to something with the insecurity thing. he simply HAS to have his tail around something...anything when being handled, and for this reason will not explore during handling. if his tail is taken off he will ball it up to about the last 1/3 of his body. he def has some issues, but hes been doing better recently. last time i held him he tried to slither away.... which is still odd for a young boa who shouldnt care one way or the other, but at least he isnt acting like a bp anymore

privacy cant be the only issue, because we keep him in the living room and hes got the whole place to himself at night. i do walk in on him late from time to time and catch him exploring.... he will promptly freeze and pretend that I dont see him. so i dunno.

Anything yet?? I was reading a post today that said the poop we see now is 2-3 feedings ago. I change Roxy's water bowl almost everyday. She is quite the Prima Dona for all my fussing. She finally gave me several small discharges. Not for nothing, (yes, I know that's not grammatically correct) but privacy is a big deal. I don't like anyone walking in on me when I am taking care of my business. I don't care how many legs they have or don't have!!!

nothing so far. ive been checking. i wonder if hes just burrying himself somewhere and im plain missing it. hes still very active so its gotta be going somewhere....
