Feeding Safety Question
I need to feed Mustache tomorrow. I usually feed in a tub not her enclosure. Usually there are a lot of people around and there is someone around to help me get her back in her tank after feeding. She is a mean little snot when fed! Tomorrow I will be going in on my own since it is Spring Break. Would it be ok to feed her in her tank this time since I won't have anyone else around?

Re: Feeding Safety Question
Mustache is 6 - 6 1/2. I haven't measured since last shed. She's usually very docile but not when there is food around. Last feeding, she struck at the lid of the tub and after feeding she just looked at me like "Come on, try to get me out of here." Once she's out of the tub she's fine again. So that's why I wonder if just this one time if it would be ok to feed in her her reg. enclosure. She won't be bothered again until school is back in session on Monday.

Re: Feeding Safety Question
If you are that concerned just skip the feeding. It won't hurt.
At 6 ft you can probably safely handle her yourself. What I would suggest is to feed, and when she is just about to finish swallowing the rat, just the butt and tail sticking out, pick her up and return her to the tank. With her mouth full of rat she won't be able to get hold of you.

Re: Feeding Safety Question
a trick I try with my corn (who is not as intimidating lol) is to allow him to leave the cage on his own and slither into my hands. if hes calmed down after feeding I will just reach in and grab him, but some times he starts coiling and rattling so I do it this way. for some reason, whether just pumped up, still in "food mode" or feeling vulderable, some snakes are a little ****y right after eating and return to their old selves as soon as they clear the feeder tank.

Re: Feeding Safety Question
My boa, whos about 5 1/2 feet long, is fed in a 10 gallon glass tank, and is usualy rather laid back, even after feeding, though she does not like the hair drier one bit, the only time ive ever seen her lunge at anything was the hair drier (i use a hair drier to heat up the f/t rats) If I look in on her and she looks a bit on edge, i just give her a little bit more time to settle back down.

Re: Feeding Safety Question
Thanks everyone! Mustache was in a very good mood after feeding today. She wasn't her usual after eating "Mean Little Snot". I took my niece with me (she's terrified of snakes) but she stayed in the room, big step for her.
