Female Possibly Pregnant?
Hello.
A couple of days ago, my boyfriend and I purchased a female Columbian Boa. A few minutes after paying for her, an employee informed us that she may be pregnant. Can anyone please tell me some signs that she may be pregnant? I have tried to research this on the internet, but without much luck. Also, besides the heating requirements, what should I do to make her more comfortable? We were also told that she would "have a big poop that is mostly white" before she gives birth. How long after this "poop" should the birth begin, if she is pregnant? I would like her to have the best pregnancy she can if this is the case, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!! -Tessa ![]() |

Re: Female Possibliy Pregnant?
A picture would be helpfull. Most gravid female boas are quite large in the middle, even without food for a while. Most will refuse food for quite some time prior to giving birth. I have never heard of them pooping like that prior to birth. When my females gave birth there was none of that.

Re: Female Possibliy Pregnant?
The people at the pet store told us about the poop. I'll try to take some pics soon. She is quite bigger in the middle, which is why they said she could be pregnant.
We are supposed to try to feed her in the next couple days, so we'll see if she'll eat. |

Re: Female Possibliy Pregnant?
I have never heard anything about the pooping white either (and the white stuff would be urates, not poop).
Sometimes petstores are not always the most knowledgeable when it comes to reptiles. Even though you would think that they would be. I would give the snake a week to settle in before you try to feed. And congratulations! This is what you have to look forward to! ![]()

Re: Female Possibliy Pregnant?
Is there anything that will tell me when she is about to give birth?
She is very active and loves her tub of water, as well as being very well tempered. Will this change after the birth? I saw that in that picture, newspaper was used as substrate. That is a very good idea, easy to clean up lol. I can use all the help and information I can get, as I'm new to this lol. ![]() |

Re: Female Possibliy Pregnant?
Believe it or not there are only 31 babies in there!
One of them is my Maggie May!

Re: Female Possibliy Pregnant?
And the mother, even after several litters, was used in school and birthday party presentations with small children.
She might be a lttle protective of the babies immediately after giving birth though.
