Considering Buying a Boa

A person I met has one for sale at 150. he says its dark and a 7ft male. Does this sound like a average price. I really want a bigger one, there is another person with a 2ft one for 60 dollars, should I just buy the smaller one. I would only want to get the smaller one if they grow fairly fast. could you give me an idea of his growth every 6 months if I bought the 2ft.Thanks alot.

Re: Considering Buying a Boa

if you are looking for a boa,, try rescues,, they have a ton of them in all the time, they are usually willing to wortk with you on picking out the right snake for you. Chances are also higher that it will not cost you nearly that either,, you just have to be able to pass the interview and such.

Why do you want a big snake?

Re: Considering Buying a Boa

well ive already checked with the only rescue I know of and they dont have any sort of reptiles right now. if you know of a way to locate more rescues that would definately be the route I went.

i want a bigger snake because my ball is only 2 ft right now and I just want a big snake. The same reason people want diffrent species of reptiles in the first place.

Re: Considering Buying a Boa

I can't see that there would be any shortage of big snakes in rescues in the Florida area. Maybe someone will be able to point you in the right direction. Probably more pythons available than boas though.

Re: Considering Buying a Boa

Other than "big" do you know what type of boa you want?

Doing a lot of research will really help, especially with a larger snake. You don't want to go in blind. Make sure you know what that particular boa's needs are - enclosure size, temperatures, humidity requirements, food, what their temperaments typically are...

It's definitely better to do that and get exactly what you want instead of getting something that surprises you later.

That said, the prices in general sound pretty much fair not knowing a species or anything, although you can almost always find one for free or close to free if you let people know you'll take one in. Believe me, I often have more offers than I can deal with.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Re: Considering Buying a Boa

Unfortunately, sometimes that the way things go. Patience is a real virtue when it comes to getting a specific reptile sometimes.

Do you have a reptile show coming up locally? That might be a good bet for you.

The 1st rule in reptile keeping is patience. Get the small one and raise it. In a couple years you will have your big snake.
