Looking for information
I'm pretty new to this site but after seeing how many of you respond with such informative posts I thought I would just jump right in. Well I'm in the market for a new boa. After looking around the Suriname really cought my eye. Their color and patterns are beautifull. On the other hand though even for a male they can get quiet big. From what I found males grow to about 8' (is this right)? So in your opinion what else is out their that I might be interested in. I know the island boas are generally smaller but arn't what I am looking for right now. Any information you can tell me about Peruvian, Venezualian, Kubsch Red Pastels, and common Colombian would be helpfull. Most importantly the average leangth of a male and their overall temper. *thanks in advance for any replies*

Re: Looking for information
Your looking at about 1.9-2.2 (5.5'-7') meters for most female boas Clay and Hogg Islands tend to be on the smaller side under 2 meters (about 6') Males tend to be alittle on the smaller side.

Re: Looking for information
the red tail I adopted had his growth stunted (on purpose... grrrr) by his previos owners, he was 6' and 16 years old, when I got him well within a year of proper housing and lots of food he grew over a foot. They do get quite big.

Quote:
When it comes to boa constrictors, if the large size is putting you off you are pretty much out of luck. They all get big with the exception of some of the island locality dwarf boas, which are basically the same snake just in a slightly reduced size. To add to the situation, some breeders have been crossing island varieties with full size mainland boas. So even your "dwarf" can turn out to be a very large snake.
