Help? Puffy eyes, infection?

My boa constrictor imperator Isadore was a rescue from a very bad home (Got him in January)and we got him with a bazillion mites. I thought we had the mites under control, but another outbreak occurred early last month and we know he has a few on him now. My question is in regards to his eyes. I took him out to feed today and noticed his eyes were puffy. We used a cotton swab and mineral oil to clean them out and got a bunch of gray gunk on the cotton swab. I was wondering if anyone knew if this was a product of his mites (My boyfriend seems to think thats what it is, and he's my snake expert ) or maybe some fungus? We're talking about calling our vet, but he thinks it's just a result of Isadore's mites and "not to worry".

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Puffy eyes can mean all kinds of different things! gray stuff out of the eyes? I would definately call a vet and discuss this issue with them!

I too vote vet.
You really don't want to second guess eye problems.
It doesn't take much for infections to progress right into the animal body.
