Nicole, don't worry. I think most of us here are on your wavelength! This guy sounds like he has no business dealing wth reptiles and deserves to be shut down, if not incarcerated!! He has people surrendering their animals to him, trusting that he will properly care for them and find them good homes. If they knew what was really going on they might be a bit more leery of letting him have them.

But then again maybe not.
It got THEM out from under the problem.

That's awful, Nicole. Those snakes are probably really thankful that you've come along. From what I know of animal control, they usually only take the animals being mistreated. I think it would be a good idea to get him out of the reptile/bird/exotic rescues. Let him stick to the furry animals that he cares for well. Hopefully the situation will soon be resolved.

Yes, I am hoping the situation will be resolved soon! I kind of feel bad for the man because he has no idea I am setting him up. I have tried talking to him to help him better educate himself in even just the beginner basics, to no avail.

I am still in the opinion that if you cannot properly take care of them then be responsible and do not own them or rescue them, in the end it doesn't do anyone or anything any good.

I am not claiming to be an expert because I am far from it! I still have a lot to learn compared to a lot of you! However the difference between him and I is that I know my limits and always welcome constructive criticism.

I have also not ever heard of any rescues that take " anything and everything", even the best of the best have limits! Please dont misunderstand me I am not a cruel person who just turns my nose up at anything that is not a reptile. Where I live we are constantly getting animals that are dumped here, litters of puppies, kittens, dogs, cats, and the list goes on, I do not keep them or rehab them as that is above my limits! I do turn them over to the local animal shelter where they can have all their needs met. Even when My first instinct is ooooh cute puppies, lets keep three. THat would be very selfish of me when I have no time for puppies.
BUt then again thats just my opinion!

So to make a long story short his stating that I am not a real rescue because I turn animals down is just ridiculous especially after talking to everyone I have in the last few days.

this may come as a shock, but believe it or not the bird rescue just takes BIRDS, and the ferret rescue just takes ferrets, and the cavy rescue just takes cavies, imagine that So now I do not have such a complex

Stick with what works for you and all will be great!

Back to the original reason for this post I cannot wait to get my hands on those snakes and start their rehab hopefully, and see them in a good home with a happy ending! I have a lot of support for them as the guy who usually takes my snakes is willing to come down once a week and give me pointers along with the care of the vet and all the stupid questions I am sure I will post here. I will get pics up as soon as I get them!

Nicole if you start to feel sorry for setting the guy up,..
just look at the condition of the animals you are getting from him.
That should soothe your conscious a bit.

He should count himself lucky he doesn't live closer to some of US!
We might not be as delicate about it.

I just got off the phone with derich the snake guy and he is estimating a year to a year and a half of rehab before they will be ready to find a new home! Phew................... I hope I do not get too attached that will be a rough situation! Look how long I have had King Arthur and I already would be lost without him! Shoot I thought I was going to have to "box" my vet to get him back, LOL. Will definately be a rough road, remember I do not rehab big snakes for a long term period, so the long term is all new to me, other than the conversations Derich and I have back and forth, but talking and doing are two different things! I am usually the one who gets them, foots the initial vet bill, start meds if any, start feeding, and off they go. Its a whole different world with snakes versus iguanas!!

Yes but you will learn that snakes aren't nearly as much work!
If I had as many iguanas as I do snakes I would never get out of the reptile room!

Of course you know that we will help all we can!
