I agree that the last bite sounds like a feeding bite. My advice is to try feeding her more, at least for a while. (3 medium-large rats or two large or XL ones) My sister had to feed her red tail boa small rabbits to keep her happy. The food items should be about as thick as the widest part of your snake... or enough to add up to that.
Although your feeding regime sounds good for an average boa, perhaps she has special requirements. I've found that snakes tend to mellow out for longer periods when they find out that food is abundant and regular.
Try keeping handling times short... before she gets uncomfortable. Try to end on a good note. Also if you have problems picking her up as she is in a hissy mood, try dropping a kitchen towel over her head before picking her up. Usually when they see the hand coming it freaks them out, but when they feel themselves getting picked up and supported, it's better.
Good luck!

Hi the feeding is per the vet as he feels she is not big enough for a rabbit, He says the smaller more frequent meals are easier to digest and have the least chance of regurgitation. She is also a little small for her age (my opinion) and I dont think she was fed on a regulaer basis, just whenever, whatever they could afford. That I see a lot as people do not realize it will cost them 12.00 to 15.00 a week to feed them, so they get fed whenever they can afford it. So frustrating, because other people are expected to fix the problem they created when in reality they had no business having the snake in the first place!
I will just keep working with her and some time in t he near future she will be put on the adoption forum here. Of course experienced handlers only.

You don't have to feed her a rabbit, but maybe try an extra rat: 2 large and one medium rat. It's hard for me to say because we always go by weight for our snakes. We weigh each frozen rat and choose based on the body weight of our snakes. (10-20% of the snake's body weight as a rule of thumb) This is also a guideline for when we feed more. Maybe check your snake's bodyweight and the weight of the amount of rats you've been feeding and see what sort of ratio you get.
I would not feed more than once a week... maybe once every 10 days, but I'd try at least offering an extra, smaller rat to see if she wants it or can digest it.

On the other hand, she could just be traumatized from her life before. Good luck!

We had a ball python that had an attitude and I found that holding him every day once or twice a day even if it was only to say hi and put him back he got more and more calm as time went on it did take close to 6 months for him to stop striking at people. It sounds like you are holding her allot. Maybe hold her more often for shorter amounts of time. We rescued a Burmese python that was around 16 -18 feet he had been abused by a man so he did not like men but was fine with women. I hope you can find what works for her. Good luck.

I definately am not giving up on her I am just hoping to find an appropriate home for her. I wish I knew more about her history, that would probably help some. I have had 2 Burmese come in but I can tell You they were moved within 5 days so as far as the really big snakes I have no formal training on how to tame them. We will see what the snake man says when he comes down next week. Hopefully he will have room, I doubt it though, I had to turn down an albino boa today because he has no room and neither do I I have also had to turn down two baby cornsnakes because I have no room and they do not move fast enough. What a horrible situation. Cleopatra stands a chance, I refuse to give up yet!

OMG! where were you a day ago? That really hurts my heart! Read the thread" I am so mad" and you will see what happened to it. It should be under general discussion! I wish I would have known that I do not beleive in shipping but in this case I would have made an exception as it probably would have been a better place!

No, trust me Nicole...it didnt sound snotty...it is very easy to become frustrated...I am actually surprised that an albino boa came through...most likely its a king snake or a corn....most people dont even know species....Albino boas are quite expensive...so a rescue is kind of unlikely.....I can imagine a number of people here would love an albino boa (me included) so if any more come up, post it here...someone may be able to help you out. best wishes!

I did not see the snake, but I did ask the size and he said it was over 8 feet and very mean, hence the reason I did not take it as all my big enclosures are full and I am not a snake tamer, and the snake guy is full. ( his name is Derich by the way so noone gets confused when I refer to the snake guy and the other guy) .
I am aware that they are spendy and have had about 2 different albino large species in the past come through here, but once again didn't stay very long as Derich snatched them up. The only reason I imagine I even get any at all is that I live in a military town and they are either confiscated from the barracks or, people are transfering. It is amazing what you see come through in a military town.
My hubby is building the enclosures for the 2 red tail boa with the mouth rot as I feel they are in more need of care and are in a desperate situation, but I will keep all lines of communication open with the other "rescue" and bite my tongue to see how this other snake does. It is hard enough for me to convince him to give me the other ones, he is actually going to charge me for them what a loser! The only thing I have going is the money factor because he has none, so I flash the cash and I am sure he wont care.
