It's been awhile
I just had a question about my red tail boa Shesha. I just recently I upped his prey size from 1 adult mouse every 5-7 days to a small-medium rat every 2 weeks. I just want to make sure that I am giving him ample time to digest his bigger food but afraid of overfeeding. Am I doing the right thing or do I need to allow more time? Thanks all!

How old is your red tail boa?? If you were feeding every 5-7 days...maybe try every 10 days instead of going right to 2 weeks. I see with any of my boas, that the lump disappears within a few days anyways....so digestion is quite quick.....good luck....

I agree dont go straight to 2 weeks, see how he takes the first couple of feedings at 10 days, if he doesnt seem hungry, stretch it out, if he eats aggresivly, stick to 10 or less.

Hi, at 18 months your boa will stilll have a lot of growing to do, I would also expect him to be on medium rats by now, we have two that are about the same age as yours and are on medium rats, they have one every 7 days...at the age your boa is at I would not worry too much about overfeeding, obviously don't go mad, but I don't see a problem with feeding every 7 days, depending on how big he is.

He is taking the medium rats. He is close to 3 1/2' long and he is getting pretty thick around the middle. I'm not worried that they prey is too big, just more worried that I would be overfeeding him if I fed him once a week like before

I feed all my snakes on a weekly feeding schedule.
If it seems that the snake is getting to fat you can always back off the feeding frequency or reduce the size of the prey.
