Icky tail...
Last night Bilboa FINALLY decided to shed. It is the first one with me and I was pretty nervous, as he has a LOT of scarring and eyecap issues ect.... Anyway, all seems to have gone well, no eyecaps, all one nice piece and his scars are looking a bit better. My only concern is that the tip of his tail seems a bit raw, and just a tiny bit bloodied right on the end. It was pretty messed up before, but not quite like this. What do you guys think?

I don't see what else it could be.... He hasn't been out of his cage for more than a few minutes this whole week, and I can't find anything sharp in the cage itsself. Plus, he's hardly left his hide at all this whole time. Gah!
I cleaned it and put a dab of neosporten on the raw bits. It doesn't seem to bother him much, so I'm not too worried... I just want to know if there are any ideas out there as to what caused it... and how to avoid it in the future.

One of them is just cardboard, the other one (the humidity hide) is from a plastic container with holes drilled into the top and a hole cut into the side. I put tape around the entrance to make sure it wasn't too rough, and the holes in the top are covered with paper toweling. Maybe he managed to get passed the toweling somehow?

Since you say he has had shedding issues prior it is possible that there was a retained shed that had constricted the tail and the tip came off with the shed. The dab of neosporin is good and make sure that you keep the cage good and clean and watch it for any sign of infection.

Betadine... why didn't I think of that? I'll clean the cage out ASAP just in case and keep that neosporin on there.. and maybe a little Silvedine (SP?) He's been getting antibiotic shots for a while now as the vet was worried about the tail before all this, so hopefully infection is not likely.
Restriction makes sense. As I said, it was pretty bad before and there is sort of a hard nasty bit of shed that I found in his humidity box. I am hoping that is the case and maybe this will help get rid of the problems he's been having. This shed has help so much! Most of the rough bits are gone, or almost, his eye is almost totally better and in all he just looks healthier. Now to get his weight back up... Thanks for the help!
