Reptile Classifieds

Ok, many know I have been working on the reptile classifieds. I have completed the layout for how the ads will appear, but I would like some input from you all.

Here is an ad. It is not real...yet. lol

Baby Fire Skinks - Reptile Classifieds

How does the layout look?

What could be done to improve it?

What other information would you like to know? (If any.)

You should know the drill by now. Rip it apart if it needs to be. I want to wrap this thing up sometime this millenium. lmao

Re: Reptile Classifieds

I like it, but I also think that the links at the bottom would be better if they appeared to be buttons or something. As is they just look like text and you don't immediately see that you can click on it to get more information....

Re: Reptile Classifieds

I like the set up. Personally, I'd like to see immediately whether they are willing to ship or not, and where they're from. Only because I see a lot of people on forums who want to sell a reptile, but immediately say "NO SHIPPING".

I like the "how far from you" box, though. That's cool. Would it work even in cases where shipping wasn't an option?

Oh, also is there any way to put a fail safe on the "Buy it now" button? I mean, if someone puts the post up there and has 10 skinks, and 12 people go to buy it, will it make the sale for all of them? Just curious.

Re: Reptile Classifieds

Buyer Tools, and Resources need to be more button like. Sorta like the boxes at the top so people will know they are clickable. Yes they are mouse over to the hand but people are lazy and are visually stimulated. So something that stands out.

Agree with the no shipping thing. It should be in Ad Information. Like this
Code:
Ad Information
Asking Price: $75.00
Sex - Gender: Unknown
Age: 1-3 Months
Shipping available: Yes
Code:
Ad Information
Asking Price: $75.00
Sex - Gender: Unknown
Age: 1-3 Months
Shipping available: No

You could add a green check mark there so people will see it along with the yes. For No just have it say no and a red x.

I think search keywords should be below everything else in the ad. Not under comments, but that too wouldnt hurt.

Maybe a feed back or trader rating next to the sellers name too.

Yes I made the check mark and the x, got bored again.

Ok, I think I can handle that request. (Especially since I thought the same thing. lol)

THATS IT! Lmao! I was telling marsha that there was something I was forgetting to add to the top. That is what I was forgetting. lol Thanks!

It isn't a shipping calculator. It only tells the distance between the buyer and seller. Its actually more geared toward not shipping, though I was going to be looking into a rate calculator.

I was actually considering removing the buy it now all together. I was thinking though that I could limit it to one item PER classified howver. That way, I could use some code to determine if the item were paid for. If it was, and paypal posts back to me, it can list the item as sold automatically and remove the buy it now button. How that will function is still a work in progress. if I can't lock it down, I will remove it in exchange for showing the user does accept paypal.

Those are actually links, and I will make them look more so. When clicked, they will display other ads that have the keyword that was clicked.

There is a feedback feature built in. I need to heavily tweak it though because it was designed half a##. It actually allows a person to "edit" there feedback and only allows a user to give feedback once. So if you bought 5 Leopard Geckos from me, on 5 different occasions, you can only leave feedback once and you can edit it as many times as you wish.

So lets say the first 4 transactions were perfect, and you gave me great feedback. Then the last time the leo arrived dead. You could go in and change your "great seller feedback" to "don't buy from this guy ever". The only thing people would see is "don't buy from this guy ever" and none of the good transactions. lol

Someone wasn't paying attention when they coded that feature. lol Thats a train wreck waiting to happen!

Re: Reptile Classifieds

I have added the delivery field. On the ad itself, it will be text only. On the search results and the "My Ads" display, it will use images. (When I get to that part.)

I currently have it set using a text variable. If the user says "yes" , they will ship and it lists as "Will Ship". If they type "no", it displays "Pick-up Only".

I will work on the buttons tomorrow.

You mean what if they are willing to do both?

If they are willing to ship the animal, I am pretty certain that they would/should be willing to meet up. If I live an hour away from someone and they aren't willing to meet and deliver the animal in person somewhere, they aren't getting my business. Most people are willing to do the pick-up, the "will ship" is an added bonus.

Re: Reptile Classifieds

I don't know if this was intentional, but I'm not able to leave a comment. It wants me to register again.

Other than that, I like it. Most of the information is right there and easy to see. You may still want to add a bit in the location box that gives the city/state/country. You can see whatever the person has in their profile information, and the mileage, but if they don't have that location in there information, you won't be able to tell where it is without contacting them. I might be willing to drive 350 mi, if it's to Maryland near my grandparents' house, but I probably wouldn't drive that far the other direction.

Just my two cents. I like the set up a lot, though.
