What did you pay?

I have been asked to shoot my cousins wedding in July. I have to come up with a price quote for the travel time (9 hour drive down) editing time (could take days and days) and prints, proofs, wedding book, etc.

Those of you who are (or have been) married, or been involved in planning a wedding, I would love it if you could answer a few questions:

1.) Roughly how much did you pay for wedding photos?

2.) What did that price cover (prints, a book, just proofs, etc.)

3.)Did you feel you over paid?

4.) How long ago was this?

5.) Was it a small wedding, or a big extravagant thing?

This would help me soooo much, thank you guys!

Re: What did you pay?

I've been married for 14 yrs so the value of $400 wouldn't mean much today.

Lacey
We didn't have our pictures done by a professional and even if we did prices would have changed in all most 25 years.

But graduation pictures run $100-150 for the sitting fee (usually up to about 10 poses and 3 clothes changes) and the proofs. Pictures can cost another S400 or more.

Re: What did you pay?

When I got married 5 years ago, the going rate was $2500 for a WELL seasoned, very nice photographer. This also included a leather bound wedding album with X amount of photos in there, with varying sizes. I didn't get too much into it since I couldn't afford $2500. This did NOT include negs. I can't remember any place that gave the negatives out for 10 years, since this allowed them to have control over reprints for friends and families.

As I said before, a friend of the family did mine for me. She didn't take photos of the reception, minus the few key points, like the cake cutting and flower toss. I wanted her to enjoy it as well. $500 and she gave me the negs and a set of 5 x 7 prints of everything she took. She took 7 rolls of 24. I had my own enlargements made and made my own book. She was local, there was no traveling involved. And she was a pro. She did weddings for 3 years, now she does photo journalism in NYC.

I can say these days with digital photography, its getting more and more popular. Friends of mine got married 2 years ago. He shot the whole thing digitally and took over 1000 photos. He did a great job too.

Re: What did you pay?

My sister paid 2500.00 this past December. I will see if I can find what all it included.

Re: What did you pay?

I paid $2500 back in 1991. It included a leather album with about 24 pages (some with multiple photos, some with just one). He photographed before, during, and after the ceremony, as well as key shots during the reception.

About 2 years later, I purchased our proof copies for about $100. There were about 200 of those.

Our wedding was about 450 people. Now I'm divorced, and it seems like such a waste!
