Re: Moving Advice
well that doesnt sound so bad,,,,, I was figuring something like wal mart or something crazy like that. If he is actually going for a career change and just has to work his way up,,, you will be alright. Things like that just take time and then he will reach his goals. Its amazing how things always have a way of working themselves out,, eveb when it seems like they never will, or it happens at a stressful time.
Okay I am done, I am sounding like a mom again, lol

Re: Moving Advice
Yeah, everyone is ticked at him for not being an electrician but he doesn't like working outside in the snow, he doesn't like working out of town and he really doesn't like his superiors and the fact that they make their own rules.
He took a weekend job as a production assistant at kxly which is one of Spokane's major news stations and we thought it was going to be 15hrs a week but they had a fulltime slot open up so he took it.

Re: Moving Advice
yes it sounds like a paycut but think about the pay RAISE in the future. When Todd got his new job, we took a paycut by about $8k a year, BUT he is no longer spending a fortune on suits and fancy drycleaning. I think its a wash in the end. PLUS he is far less stressed at this job. The people there all have a college degree, which I think can lead to a much higher caliber of people. Not saying you need a degree to be a high caliber person, but when you have an entire workforce where only 10% are college educated, you are going to find some toads. And not the herp kind!

Re: Moving Advice
I just don't think it was the best time to take a pay cut by half since we're going to be moving about the same week he gets his first paycheck from KXLY.
I just keep repeating to myself, "You promised to support him in his pursuit for happiness." over and over...I'll stand by that until he tells me the menu for the week is ramen and rice because that's all we can afford.

That's when you "drop by" a friend's or your folks' at dinner time.

Re: Moving Advice
well at least he waited until AFTER you got the approval from the apartment complex. Would have been a lot more difficult with the lower paying job...

Re: Moving Advice
Well here's an update:
Phil got the lower paying job and he is much nicer to be around, it's great and he's already going to get a 'significant' raise according to the big bosses.
I found myself with a better job at the beginning of the year, a 3 dollar raise, full time hours and paid holidays and vacation and stuff. Woo! (and the receptionist from heck is gone)
We FINALLY have a rough move in date, they are putting in the carpet on the 31st of January and they say we should be able to get in on the 2nd.
It's ABOUT DARN TIME!

Re: Moving Advice
I really don't have a whole lot to move, very few possessions.
I have no bed, dresser, desk, tv, just a bit of clothing, my camping gear and a few lizards.
Everything else is just going to be bought as I go along and realize what i'm missing. I think the camping kit will get me through for a while though and the boyfriend has enough junk ot choke a horse.

Re: Moving Advice
oh joy! moving day! I would suggest the first load you take over should be cleaning supplies, a lamp, trash bags, and TP. I don't know about out there but here in MD the only times you have light fixtures built into the room is in the bathrooms, closet, and kitchen. If you do actually have light fixtures there, then just bring light bulbs.... I have also found that the cleaning crews that they send to clean apartments between tenants aren't the best. this way you can go in and clean windows, and blinds, and all the cracks and crevices before you add an apartment full of furniture to get in the way.
You should also try to get Phil to be very organized with his stuff. makes it a whole lot easier to find things as you go, without having to dig through every box in the apartment. GOOD LUCK and ENJOY your new place!
