Re: Moving Advice
Lacey, I just (finally) bought some living room furniture that I love. Right now isn't only good for home buyers - it's good for furniture buyers, too.
I managed to get a deal where it's a two-year no payment, no interest plan. That means for two years, I can pay when I have the money, and not be penalized if I don't, interest free. I calculated how much I could spend a month on the payments, and then how much that would add up to in two years. That way I would be able to tell what I could reasonably pay off before the two year mark hit.
It's great. I don't feel the constant pressure of having another bill hanging over my head, but I am also steadily paying it off. At the rate I'm going, I should be done paying it off at least six months before the two year deadline.
Try to look for something like that if you want brand new stuff. As long as you pay it off before the interest comes due, you're golden.

Re: Moving Advice
Try Craigslist. I found an entertainment center for $20, sanded it down and painted it black to match my other furniture and it looks GREAT! We also got a sectional sofa for $20 as well. Truthfully finding those two things were what made Brett and I decide to renew our lease for another year, we actually REALLY liked how the apartment fit so much we didn't want to think about moving and starting over...

Re: Moving Advice
We made a christmas list today, we're each asking our parents for about 10 little things, like mixing bowls and kitchen towels. That should help things out. As far as a kitchen table is concerned I could care less I eat dinner on a board thrown across a stool on my bedroom floor right now, he's the one who 'needs' furniture.

Re: Moving Advice
Of course you could always go the old college student route!
Concrete cinderblocks and 2x4s!

Re: Moving Advice
Cinder blocks are expensive now, we've got milk crates though, and a few mini kegs, I mean who wouldn't love a mini-keg coffee table?
Inspiration just stuck, Use the kegs as legs and then cover a board with labels, seal it, tah-dah custom table...

Re: Moving Advice
We'll have to drink a bunch of beer first...with how little I drink it may take years unless I enlist Phil's friends to help, but i'm cheap so there will be a bunch of PBR labels in the mess, i'm not buying them good beer.
I'm sure i'm going to need to buy a bed, but i'm really not looking forward to that....expensive!

Re: Moving Advice
yes, beds are expensive. At least you don't have to go with a fancy frame. Look into not getting a box spring. I find them totally a waste of space and money. After all, they don't use them in europe. Instead they use a solid board held up by slats.

Re: Moving Advice
I have a double bed right now and we can both kind of sleep in it but it isnt very restful, he sleeps on the floor at his house, so I don't think we'll have a hard time working something out...but when i'm sick all bets are off, the entire bed is mine and everyone else can ummm....I can't think of a forum friendly way to put it so i'll just say "get lost"
