That's because we don't get SNOW and ICE here... at least for the most part. Now fog as thick as pea soup--different story!

Why not...most of us already act like we're independent from the federal government.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
No Steph that is Montana - aka the write your own constitution state.
We'd also be much better off without Chicago. I would love to either give that city to Wisconsin or let it return to being a swamp and all the loons living there can remain in it and freeze the first winter.
Without the city of Chicago I could tolerate the state I live in -- The People's Republic of Illinois (and yes you should pronounce the S on the end of Illinois)

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
People are awful!
Let me explain:
In the summer, my mother bakes pies and sells them at Farmer's Markets for some extra cash. At one of them about two months ago a couple of cats suddenly appeared. They were jumpy and nervous, but very human friendly. One disappeared shortly after, but one came back every week to sit with my mother. It became quite obvious that he was a house cat (young) who'd been dumped and left by his owners, probably along with the second cat. He was declawed, and initially scared at noises a stray cat isn't.
Anyway, when she stopped doing the Farmer's Market, she brought the cat home with her and named him Fred.
Sweet, huh?
The problem was that my brother is also allergic to cats, so she couldn't bring him inside. Instead she set up an area in the laundry room (which is on the outside of the house) for him, and a little doghouse out in the yard. So he'd wander around, eat the food we put out for him, happy as could be. But he always wanted lots of attention, and he was sweet as could be, and if you sat outside with him, he'd just sit on your lap all day.
My mother concluded that he really needed to be an indoor cat, so she got in touch with a friend of hers who was really excited to take him. Before she could, though, she had to leave the state to be with her dying grandmother. So my mother kept Fred for when she returned.
All of the sudden, she starts getting calls from this guy saying he heard that the cat needed a home and he wanted him. She told him he already had a home, but she had the distinct feeling that someone was going to just up and take him. I told her to keep him in the laundry room or in one room of the house for a few days, but I guess she decided not to do that. Sure enough all the sudden there's no sign of Fred.
Someone came up into her yard and stole her cat!
It makes me really, really angry that someone would do that. (A little angry at my mother, too, because she wouldn't keep him inside.) I mean how low can you get? There are thousands of cats in shelters waiting to be adopted, and you have to steal one who already has a home? What a jerk! I hope that every day he wakes up feeling guilty and rotten.
I know there's nothing we can do because we really have no idea who took Fred, but I wish there was a way we could make that person feel as bad as my mother does. That really irks me.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Typh, that sucks. Seriously sucks. So many cats out there that need homes too.
On a side note, I had the most delicious Indian food for lunch.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
I think this is turning into a cat forum Everytime I try to catch up you'all are talking about cats. Well I guess someone has to like them. I believe they are food in some countries but dogs are more so.
