Re: The Internets Longest Thread

I started therapy for my broken ankle last night. I am so sore today :-(

The therapist was great, he was very informative about my injuries and what I am to expect from therapy. My official injuries are Avulsion Fracture to the Tib. & Fib., plus a crush injury to the darsum (top of foot). He said with this type of fracture that tendons are pulled from the bone actually breaking the bone. So not only is the bone broken I have a lot of tendon damage. He said he was going to go easy on me but I am still very sore today.

no pain no gain. I often call it physical torture. I'm about 70% rehabbed with my ankle.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread

My kitten went back to the vet last night. THe vet checked on her respiratory infection and that has cleared up. She now weighs in at 2.8 pounds up a little over a pound from her 1.4 pound weigh in two weeks ago. Since she was feeling better she got her first booster shot and another round of deworming.

The vet went on and on about feline luekemia. The kitten tested negative when she was the spca but the vet told me that you can get a false negative up until they are three months of age and recommended retesting her at that time. She also talked about a vaccine. Does anyone know much about this disease? She is an only cat and it is highly unlikely that we will be getting another one. She will be an inside cat and won't be exposed to other cats.

Secondly, the spca was going to microchip the kitten as part of our adoption fee. The vet said that she personally didn't think this was necessary for cats that were going to indoor cats. She also stated that cats sometimes get tumors at the site of the micro chip. Anyone know anything about this issue?

Re: The Internets Longest Thread

Get a new vet...

Retest for feline leukemia when she's 5 months old, if it comes back negative don't bother vaccinating her for it unless she is going to go outside. We offer it as optional, we only recommend it for outdoor cats and cats that come into contact with outdoor cats otherwise there is no risk. You can get false negatives and false positives andit's good to check since she was from a shelter.

Definitely get her chipped, we return probably 4 dogs and cats a month that people bring in to be checked for chips. Just imagine that you guys go on vacation and have a neighbor or someone feeding the cat, they open the door one morning and out she goes, no tag, no nothing. It's a scary thought. I've even considered chipping my iguana but I doubt anyone would check him for a chip...

That recent study about avid chips causing cancer is a rushed study with no good credentials. Most vets just laughed at it. We have thousands of animal clients and none have presented with a tumor, the only issues we've ever had is with the chip "traveling" and ending up in the armpit where most people wont scan for it.

The risk of loosing my pet forever far outweighs the tiny chance of them getting a tumor, and if they do its easy to remove a chip and a tumor on the back, lots and lots of extra skin, but like I said before the chances of that are minimal.
