its amazing what you find on other sites, lol. I joined a cat forum in hopes to get some advice on how to treat some of the sick ferals and strays. They suggested I take them ALL to the vet and have them treat them. I reminded them that these were not my cats and I already have 5 here that are being treated by the vet, and have taken almost 50 to shelters. But according to them since I took on trying to get these cats out of there,, they are ALL my responsibility, lol.
My opinion: get real!! I agree if I take them out they then become my responsibility,,, hence the reason the 5 here are being treated by a vet. It was not a friendly site, LMAO! I did find another one that deals with ferals that was really friendly! So they have helped out some.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Isn't that funny? But the local shelters/animal control also say that about feral animals.
We rent a little cottage that's on our property. A few years ago, one of our renters was AWFUL, never paid, distroyed the house, and when we finally forced them to leave three months later (we were very fortunate on that one), they left behind their sweet little house cat. My brother and I are both highly allergic to cats and we were both there at the time, so we simply couldn't keep the cat. Plus, at first we weren't sure if they would be back to get the cat.
So for about two weeks my mother fed the cat. She didn't bring it inside, she just fed it. When it was abundantly clear that the owners were never going to come and get it, she called animal control and at least one of the local shelters. They both told her that because she fed the cat, it was now hers and they acted like she was just abandoning it, and were very rude about it. She finally had to take the cat to a shelter in another city a hour away because we just couldn't keep it.
I understand the attitude that the cat is yours if you've taken care of it for a couple of years, or even months and you've gotten attached, but it seems like everyone involved in cat care seems to think that if you're kind to a stray or abandoned cat it's automatically yours. It's the strangest sort of attitude.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
How very interesting! I actually drive these things an hour away to rescues because our local shelters are so full, according to them. I actually took a bunch of friends to the last city council meeting and we spoke up to end their contract. It is up at the end of this year. I want to know what I pay all my taxes for when they say it is not their problem. They say it is not in their contract to deal with county strays. I did however send a friend in with a cat and they told him that they had room as long as he paid 45.00 dollars to them. I had called an hour prior to that and they told me they did not have one empty cage, imagine that, lol. You should have seen the look on their faces when we both spoke up at the council meeting and explained what had happened. Even one of the city councilmen asked them to explain why I was not allowed to take the cat in, but the man who paid was,,,lmao!
It is funny though,, if they find themselves dealing with an dumped snake or iguana, or what not I am the first they call to relieve them of their problem.
Well turnabout is fair play in my eyes,,, my answer will be a big fat NO,,, you deal with it,,,, next time. Or maybe I should ask if they have money to surrender it,, if not then I cant take it,, lmao!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
I took the new kitty to the vet last night. The SPCA told me she was about 8 weeks old when she was brought into them on 9/16, I adopted her on 9/23 which would make her about 10 weeks. The vet said no way, she is MAYBE 6 weeks old. She is very skinny and has an upper respiratory infection. So she is now on antibiotics and special food to fatten her up a little bit. She has to go back in two weeks and if she is feeling better then she will get her next set of shots.
I was home from work yesterday and all she wanted to do was sleep up under my chin!
And her name is officially little Fang. Katie won the name battle!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
i would agree with the vets about her estimated age. there's no way she's 8 weeks unless she's really tiny for her age. good luck with her. i love the name! lol
