Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Nicole, your experiences always show me people who amaze me.
These people decide they aren't going to take care of their own pets, usually using the excuse that they're too expensive, so they let them get sick and starve until they're near death. Then they get mad when you tell them you've taken in dozens of animals in the same condition and just don't have the room or time or money to take in more.
If people would just do a tiny bit of research before they buy an animal, or at least take responsibility for it when they do, this wouldn't even be an issue. It's truly amazing to me how many people think they can do whatever they like and not have to pay the consequences for their actions.
People who are that selfish really make me angry.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
How about charging an outrageous fee to "unload" an animal....they do it here for cats and dogs....$250 for unspayed cats, sometimes even spayed ones....so say $100 for an iguana, $150 for a tortoise....but then I suppose they would just let the poor things wither and die....people are dumb! ....grrrrr
Dont worry Nicole...people just dont think....you are doing fine.....

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Its really not that I care what people think or that they think that I am mean. To me the answer is pretty simple lets define mean : I used to work for CPS, I spent my days trying to help the kids that were abused, neglected, and so on, and the occasional ungrateful teenager who hated their parents with no good reason, lol. That got so stressful that it was going to cause divorce, so I quit. However I do not abuse me kids or neglect them, I have never had any issues in the way of CPS, lol. Now I run a rescue that I put my whole heart and soul into, once again I am not the one who abuses or neglects these animals, nor do I my own personal. If my kids need something they get it, they have never known hungry or cold, ever. If my animals need something they get it, at my home they do not know hungry or cold, and they AlWAYS get medical attention when they need it.
So really who is the "MEAN" one, lol
I just wonder when they are going to start treating the reptiles the same way they do the domestic animals. You know if I starved my cat, not that I own one, but if I did people would be appalled and they would want justice! But no bidg deal if I starve my iguana to the point it dies, after all it is just a lizard. Thats the part that gets me. In my opinion I dont care what it is, if you choose to keep it as a pet you should treat it like you would want to be treated. Whether it be a 99 cent mouse or a horse. Years ago I spent over 200.00 dollars on my daughters pet mouse only to find out it had cancer and had to be humanely euthanized, she had it for 2 years, I felt that it deserved the same treatment whereas a few said knock it in the head and get a new one That is the mentality that makes me SICK!
Dont get me wrong I am not one of those insane crazy animal rights people who set fires and all that garbage, I think you should be responsible for WHATEVER you choose to keep as a pet!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
I definitely agree with you there. Even if you're just going to use it as food for a snake, you feed and water the mouse and keep it healthy, because by taking in that animal, you are taking responsibility for it.
It looks like you just really care for mistreated beings, Nicole, and a lot of the stress subsequently comes from seeing other people abuse them and not understanding where that comes from. I guess that's the downside of being truly empathetic. We should all just be glad that there are people out there like you.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Don't sweat the small stuff Nicole. The next time someone calls and decides to rip into you, simply state the following:
Your right, its my fault you neglected your animal to the point that you now want to dump it on someone else. Its my fault that I can't correct all of the wrongs that you did to this helpess creature. You know what though, I know someone who can help you. I am going to contact the police now and let them know you have committed animal neglect and then called my home threatening me for not taking in the animal. Have a nice day, you just made mine.
Then hang up.
You don't have to call the police or anything, but I bet they will pi$$ themself thinking you did!

Actually some of them do, a very small percentage, but hey you got to start somewhere, lol. There are some good stories you just here about all the bad, lol. I will have to start posting about the happy endings. I have one coming to visit me the week after next, an iguana that was meaner than snot thatwas placed last year and flourishing They named him Sid, I am actually quite excited to see him. I will keep you posted

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Have you ever realized that all we are is basically glorified pooper scoopers? I am definately feelingthat way tonight as I spent ALL day cleaning poop and making salads, lol. They are so spoiled and ungrateful, my males are getting ready to get a boot up the butt if they dont realize that I do not want to mate with them and I REFUSE to admit they are the dominate one, Amadeus actually whipped me so hard in the face today it left a welt on my fore head and cheek. He is lucky I didnt make soup out of him (kidding) lol. I want to know how ALL of the snakes here managed to poop on the same day, I mean every single one did. I have never had that happen, ever, lol. THe iggys seemed to be in the mood to poop paint today, well the males anyway. What did I do to deserve this
They are all conspiring I just feel it in my bones, lol.
