Re: The Internets Longest Thread
The sad thing is there really is nothing you can do. Even with the fence and the signs if she comes into your yard, you're responsible. Heck, if a burglar can cut himself and sue the owner for a million dollars and win, there's really no hope, is there?
I agree about calling the cops - at least to register a formal complaint. That at least gives you a documented record where you've done everything possible to keep the kids off of your property. Who knows, maybe one visit from the local PD will make those parents take responsibility for their kids.
I know I don't have any kids and that may be affecting my view on this, but I really don't understand the whole, "my kid is perfect" mentality. They're kids. They do stupid things without knowing *because* they are kids. It doesn't mean you're a bad parent or that you didn't teach them right - unless, of course, you refuse to correct them for their errors.
When I worked retail, those parents and their kids were my biggest nightmare.
I'd tell a kid, "Don't pull over that bookcase, little boy, it will crush you to death."
Then the angry mom would retaliate, "Don't your DARE tell MY kid what to do! He can touch what he WANTS! HE'S the customer."
*sigh*

we have this EXACT same problem with our neighbors kids. There was a pack of 12 of them, running around our cars, dragging their hands across them. Todd yelled at them so loud, you would have thought they were committing murder. Well, one of the mom's overheard him and yelled at him, saying how DARE he yell at her kids. That if he has a problem with her kids (she has 7) to come and talk to her.
He said fine, and if it happens again, her insurance will be paying for any damages caused by them.
we haven't seen them in the yard since.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
This is the same little girl that within the first week of me moving here she walked into my garage and took an ice cream cone out of my freezer, I only caught her because I went out to get the bleach at the same time she was standing there, ice cream cone in hand and freezer wide open. I talked to her dad about it but obviously to no avail. However I did tell her that the next time she wants to steal from me that she will NEVER get another ice cream from me again. I dont scream at them but geez, it is definately getting old!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
I'd be screaming....doesn't that girl have any manners?
If I'd gone onto someone elses property without permission and stolen from their freezer my parents would have beaten my behind black and blue.
Heck I might be tempted to call child services and say that this little girl running around unsupervised...and when she is supervised it's under the watchful eye of an idiot with entitlement issues.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
I agree. If the kids continue to come onto my property, harrass my animals and and help them selves to my possessions, the authorities are going to be called.
If something happens to them while your property its a pretty good guess that the parents are going to be after YOU to be responsible.
Since THEY obviously aren't!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Child Protective Services was my first thought. Just tell them that the kids are running around unsupervised, trespassing, stealing from neighbors, and injuring neighborhood animals (serial killer in the making, ).
The other thing is that if it keeps up, YOU'LL eventually have to pay for the cost of the fence that they've damaged by climbing on it. That's BS!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
CPs will not even respond to that, believe me I know, I used to work for them, it is normal childhood curiousity, it is my responsibility to make sure that they have no access to my tortoise, I figured that the padlock on the fence would work! Something really bad has to happen before they will get involved! It is an absolute shame, but it is the truth! However I will make a complaint first thing in the morning with the police and CPS, not that it will do any good but to just have it on record. I have already started documenting everything though.
So now really whats the laws on razor wire fencing?
I also want to know why am I always surrounded by morons! I am starting to get a complex, lol.
Maybe I am just getting old and cranky but I do not tolerate rude abnoxious kids! My 14 year old just graduated 8th grade with a perfect 4.0 He is on the varsity wrestling team in high school, and made the football team in high school, boy does he have a busy summer of practice ahead of him, lol.
My 11 year old graduated 5th grade with a 3.8 gpa and took the Kiwanis award twice this year and the little ones got o's and s' so I guess I am just mean and strict, lol

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
I don't know the laws on use of razor wire, but I know you can buy it readily...
Razor security wire
Personally I'd start out with alot of very obvious "No tresspassing" and "Private Property" signs and maybe a security camera...even if it is just one of those fake ones with the blinking red light, it should deter some people.
Home Security Cameras & Security Camera Systems
What is that saying about "Love thy neighbor" again?

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
The saying is "Love thy neighbor, if they keep their kids on a leash" bahahahahaha. My neighbor is so bad, if one of my kids' baseballs should touch a blade of grass, she runs out and takes the ball and keeps it....and tells the kids they are trespassing....grrrr
