Re: The Internets Longest Thread
I don't think I can get poison ivy, which is a plus for me. I rubbed some up and down my arms a few years ago and never itched at all.
It looks quite painful, though. I'm surprised they're letting you work on animals being convered in it. Do you have to wear really long gloves or something?

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
We didn't realize the dog had it. I've delevoped a bit of an immunity to poison oak, but that was my first run in with Ivy. It makes me mad because I am sooooooo careful to avoid poison ivy while i'm rock climbing and then I got it off a big dumb dog.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Poison Ivy, yuck!! Katie manages to get a bad case EVERY summer. She must be allergic because it gets so bad I always have to take her to the pediatrician and they put her on prednisone to help clear it up!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
I just finished packing for our vacation. Today was very busy getting ready to go. My brother Jeff took my leo and box turtle. While I was at his house I got to check out all of his herps. He has 3 leopard geckos, 1 Uro, 1 bearded dragon that tried to look all fierce but is really a big ***** cat, a milk snake and a White's Dumpy tree frog, which looked rather comical to me! Oh yeah, he also has 4 dogs, a ferret, numerous fish tanks and cats, not sure how many but I am pretty sure it is more than 3!!! Then I was off to my brother Mike's to pick up my mother's laptop to take on vacation, can't go a week without internet I think I would go crazy!! Then the last stop was to take the bunny, parakeet and hamster to my mother in law's house. Although I am a little concerned about the hamster, she is about 2 years old and in the past few weeks has started to appear very old. I know thei lifespan is around 2-3 years. I hope she doesn't pass while at my MIL's!! The animal shuffling was the hardest on the bunny. Poor guy, he doesn't do well on car rides. I transported him in his cage, I probably should have put him in his carrier where he would have felt more secure. He got so scared in the car he peed himself, which he NEVER does. Once he got settle at MIL's he calmed down.
We are off the Chincoteague VA in the morning. We have been going there for 20 years on and off, every year the last 5. Katie loves it. She is content to walk through the Assateague National Wildfile Refuge and National Seashore and just hang out in the hotel's pool. She also takes riding lessons while there. She usually rides a nice authentic Chincoteague "pony" named Black Mist who is the granddaughter of the famous Misty of Chincoteague. My husband brings his kayak and he is in heaven all week just paddling around. As for me, I like to kick back by the pool with a good book.
Since I will have the laptop, I will probably be stopping by to read the posts. Well, I hope everyone has a great week!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
well some more thinking out loud, I swear I am a SLAVE to Oscar and the iguanas, Baby Dragon is on meds again, her absess came back in the same spot and she now has a few new burns to add to her collection, since she came back to me I had a friend who helps me around here watch her in the whole move process, i thought that he would be able to handle her, but I was wrong. He said he was getting real attached to her and was thinking about keeping her, so I went to do a well dragon check and low and behold new burns that he could not explain. Well I explained them for him, Mega Ray within 6 inches of Dragon = burns= stupid caretaker. Especially when he knows these lights have to be 18 inches away from her. I have managed to adopt out 2 of the big boys from the shop. They were picked up last week after their new enclosures were built for them. The guy is a friend of my hubbys and has wanted them for the last two years. He has 1 other iguana that he has had for 7 years, nice fat and healthy, so he knows what he is doing. It was sad to see them go since they were really technically mine, but the enclosure they were in in the shop was twice the size of the one in here and he built Huge beautiful ones for then so I let them go
it will all be great for them though.
The tokay my son brought home died yesterday, and the other one has found a new home, yeah! However I did get in another Russian tort, and its a GIRL, she is so sweet! No I do not plan to breed I am just excited to finally get something female in Most everything here is male and it can get interesting around here with the constant battle of I am studlier than you, of course I usully am the winner, note that I say usually, lol
The owners of my old house called and said they found a turtle wandering in the garden and asked me if I was missing one, NO,..... duh!!!
I really wonder if they think that there are all these animals over there because I just lost them, how stupid. So I went over and picked it up obviously not a native here! LOL nice and heavy though she is as she was well fed in my old garden Joey will be most excited to meet her!
well Oscar is waking up must hurry and get breakfast before I have a rammed ankle

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
breakfast is served for the KING, LOL. Extra crunchy and very fresh, just the way he likes them
I did forget to mention that last week I got a call from the local police and sheriff dept. They had a HUGE snaker loose in an abandoned apt, duplex type house. They were not sure if it was venomous as the last tenants were evicted for drug chrges and according to them it was HUGE and nothing they have ever seen before. I explained thet I DO NOT handle venomous for any reason, let alone take them in. They asked me to please come down and confirm if it was because they have no venomous handlers here at all. So I put on my boots and we are talking on the cell the whole way there, they are telling me it is stretched out in the middle of the floor doing nothing in one of the bedrooms by the window. I think Rattler? They have no idea,
So here comes the funny part, I peek in the window expecting something beyond what I can handle, Lo and behold lays the very dangerous garter snake, lol. So I go and irritate it so that it does not pee all over me, when all done peeing, lol. I pick it up and put it in the backyard where it scampers back into the the woods it obviously came from. They have had a lot of workers in and out of there to fix things and it obviuosly got in from an open door.
It was funny though as all our sherriff and local police are huge BABIES!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Okay...so I potentially ticked off a large group of people....
Phil and I told a friend back in April that we would come up to his lake house for his birthday this upcoming weekend.
Phil's work decided that they are going to be sending him out of town Monday for who knows how long or where to etc. etc. and we decided to still go up to the lake.
Phils friends (who were not invited up to the lake) asked phil what he was doing Friday and he said "nothing" because he forgot.
I ended up telling said friends that we are going up to the lake and now they are p***ed because nobody told them and they wanted to have a going away party for him.
Do I try to find time to fit them in, or do I tell them 'too bad so sad' because they didn't think to ask me if I had plans with him on his last weekend in town?

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Ask them if they can do something smaller for him tomorrow (Thursday), then explain that your plans had been long standing. Maybe that will help calm them down.
