I'm proud of my 800+ posts
I just got back from vermont/upstate NY, figured I may as well share about my "adventuring" there.
Me and a friend went on a backpacking trip there. It was great, we drove there from MD, starting our first day in VT in Burlington, checking out the sights, went up to St. Albans for the night, and left in the morning to Summit Mount Mansfield, highest point in Vermont, twice. First the north side, following the long trail up to the summit, then down the other side, where we camped for the night. Then, after a great hike around that area, and a "shortcut" (3 miles out of the way) that ran us into one of the tougher hikes on the mountain, we hiked/scrambled to the top for the second time, and descended down the side we started on, this time using a trail they refer to as Hellbrook to go down the mountain. After going down it, I think the name suits it well.
We drove from there to another campsite, where we camped the night, and the next day drove to the Adirondacks where we took a great day hike up another mountain range.
On the day hike in NY, we came across what was either the most amazing looking Timber Rattlesnake, I've ever seen, or possibly a Massasauga (Sistrurus catenatus). Regrettably, I didn't have my camera there, and no pictures of the snake.
After the end of that hike we hit the road, stopping again in a town called New Paltz to say hi to a friend, and then proceeded back to Maryland.
All in all it was a great trip, and I can't wait to get back up to VT/upstate NY for more backpacking.
Thought I'd share.
