Re: The Internet's Longest Thread
No Kidding!
Checkers around here are your basic minimum wage or barely a touch higher. And the stores can't seem to figure out why they can't keep them!

Re: The Internet's Longest Thread
Yeah, i doubt the checkers here make more then $8 an hour.
I know the issue has been beaten into the ground, but it does all come back to two things, Gas prices, and outsourcing. Regrettably our spineless politicians would rather just keep up the status quo then change it for the better, and those that would try, are smothered by the rest.

Re: The Internet's Longest Thread
Man. Sign me up too. Around here, those are the jobs that used to be reserved for teenagers or people with certain disabilities. Now with the economy slumping, a lot more people are applying for these jobs, so it makes them harder to get.
Although, I have to say, as far as embarrassing food check out line stories, I've got a couple myself. The worst was when I went to get groceries which totaled about $60 - and my bank card was coming up insufficient funds, which I thought was crazy, because I had *just* checked my account that morning. Unfortunately since I had checked, they'd put through an automatic payment on something I thought I had ended the month before, and I actually had about $2 to my name. Yikes. So I asked if I can go get some cash (very handy, currently drained, emergency fund) and come back to pay for the groceries, and they said they had to get a manager. Who does the manager turn out to be, but my old manager from a different store a couple of years ago. I was privately mortified. But I was able to go get the cash and buy the groceries. Oh, and I should probably mention that a family friend of mine was in line behind me this whole time. Always fun.

They are union on this side of the state as well but there is no way in gods green earth that they are making twice the minimum wage. Starting cashier jobs are like $9/hour.

Re: The Internet's Longest Thread
That they are, Lacey. The baggers are paid 10 bucks an hour to start. Only reason I know this is because my son just had an interview at Albertsons to become a bagger. Your cashiers make a ton more, especially if they have been there a while, they clean house! lol. However they do pay their union dues and all that stuff. Even the baggers are union. They also go on strike here it seems like every six months. One of my plumbers wife works at Safeway, she has been there three years she makes 19.36 an hour. I was in disbelief, The deli workers apparantly are the lowest paid people. Shoot now that I think about it, maybe I need to work as a cashier, lol.

Re: The Internet's Longest Thread
I am going to brag for a moment.
My newest grandson, logan James, was born on May 14th at 2:50am. He weighed 7lbs, 14ozs and is 20 1/2 inches long. My oldest daughter, Heather, called me Tuesday night at 10:30pm to tell me that they were on their way to the hospital. The hospital is about a 45 minute drive for me...I got there 15 minutes after they did..."Go Granny"! lol Just glad that I was at the hospital for this one, I never anticipated being allowed IN the delivery room when he was born. My oldest grandson is 4 yrs old and I was not called until AFTER he was born. Anyway, it was an experience that will never be forgotten. I have given 'birth' to 2 children...but have never "witnessed" a birth. The emotions are overwhelming. Mom & Logan are both healthy and recovering extremely well. Logan, being a little piglet, drank down his 1st bottle an hour after he was born. ![]() Introducing Logan James: ![]() ![]()
