Re: The Internet's Longest Thread

Here is the part that gets me....... I know for a fact these checkers are required to know the ads before they even are sent out to the public. So I had maybe 6 or 7 things that were not on this huge sale. THe rest of it was ALL the sale items in MASSIVE quantities. So you would have thought that maybe he would have told me as I was loading it on the belt. This would have saved himself and I a whole lot of time. I could have just seperated the orders so that it would have worked for him on his computer.

As far as him being grumpy I could care less, lol. As stated above, if he would have told me beforehand we could have all avoided this.

Feeding two teenagers and two other kids in todays ever rising grocery economy is well worth the problems I had. Geesh, my twelve year old eats more in one day than I eat in three, and she still stays skinny as a rail (brat) lol.

I swear I am losing my mind when it comes to the groceries. I have watched my favorite bread go from a 1.99 a loaf to 4.29 in three weeks. I know I look like I am a complete nut as I sit there and question it. I was almost convinced that maybe it was that expensive the whole time and I never noticed, lmao. It was a good thing that I saved my receipts to verify I was not losing my mind, lol.
Produce has gone up hare a ton,, I am now paying 3.29 a head for collard and mustard greens, holy moly, lol. They must be fertilized with gold!

Re: The Internet's Longest Thread

I feel your pain Nicole. When I was married, we had a combined family of 6 children. It took me 2 days to go through all of the grocery adds, look at the sales, get out my coupons, make my food menus for the next two weeks and write up what I needed to get and which store. I had 4 grocery stores, all within 4 miles of each other, so I wasn't wasting gas to save money. Even back then, ya gotta go what ya gotta do, to make the money stretch as far as you can. A simple breakfast on the weekends, french toast & eggs...2 loaves of bread, 2 dozen eggs & a gallon of milk. I cooked in bulk...lol Still cheaper than sitting them all down with cereal. lol It has gotten to be a sad situation when you almost have to take out a loan to feed your family!

Re: The Internet's Longest Thread

*Adds "rising grocery costs" to her already long list of why she doesn't want children.*

I'm glad I only shop for Phil and myself and I am equally glad that his favorite meal is ramen.

Re: The Internet's Longest Thread

I was watching the news last night, for a change, and they had a part on there where they were talking about the ever rising grocery prices. Congress is appparantly meeting about this. they are saying that if things dont change our economy will suffer more then it already is. They are going t o try to put a stop to it. (good luck with that)

I am not poor by any means but geesh, I dont know how many time I have been in line behind someone at the store who had to put things back because they didnt have enough money for it (so sad). People are really struggling to feed their families here.
Foreclosures are on a national high here, it is so sad!
The way it has affected me, is that I cannot take in as many animals as I used to. With the price of greens YIKES! I think it is a sad day when it is the price of food to feed the animal that stops you from taking it and not the lighting, habitat, or vet care!I turned down a 95 pound female sulcata just because of how many greens she would eat. Oscar , is 50 pounds now and if it cold and he cant go graze, he acn eat up to 6 heads a day! I cant do the 10 with her, that is really spendy if you add that up to what I already buy for all the others too.

Lets be realistic here...do you acutally think a checker making minimum wage is going to learn the ads by heart...I dont think so. Should they have a little more training on discounts yes..maybe you should break up your shopping trips into a couple, lol. had I been a customer behind you, I woulda taken you out in the parking lot.

I feed one make teenager and I am struggling and I work 3 jobs, lol

Sure, they are going to try to do something about grocery prices, conveniently ignoring the fact that the price of OIL is the real problem! The cost of groceries rising is just a trickle down from the costs that everyone pays to produce, harvest, and transport the grocery items!

But do they try to do anything about THAT?!

Congress brings in the CEOs of the oil companys (the same people who are bragging about the incredible profits that they are making), and asks them if they are price gouging. The CEO"S (not surprisingly) said "no, Its all supply and demand!"
They patted them on the head and sent them back to do business as usual!
Like sending lawmakers wads of money!

No kidding. And considering the sale items are changed on a weekly basis it really isn't fair to even expect them to be able to keep track of all of them!
I watch the checkers at the grocery store and all they know how to do is to scan the items! If something won't scan or scans and I point out that the item scanned was different than what came up on the register screen they are totally lost! They can't even make change if the register doesn't tell them how much to give!

i dont know how it is in Texas but here they are union and the minimum they make here is 16 bucks an hour. They have better benefits than I can afford for my employees. Most of them make 18-22 bucks an hour, it is hard to get a job here as a checker, lol. That is like the gold mine of jobs, besides plumbing and electricians, lol. I pay some of my plumbers over 40 bucks an hour, holy moly, lol. So do I expect them to know there job,, yeah I do.
It is no different than people expecting me to know mine. I expect my plumbers, electricians, my carpenters, and laborers to know theirs. If they are rude at any point to my customers they are immediately canned, no second chance. I guess I am a firm believer in the dont bite the hand that feeds you, without my customers we dont eat, they dont have jobs, so therefor they dont eat. lol

I loathe the city and county inspectors here, but you could never tell as I do walkthroughs with them. if I had the same body language as he did with my customers right on my heels ,as they inspected, I would not have any customers, so I just smile and suck it up, I get in the truck and rant and rave to myself as I am driving home, but my customers dont hear or see any of it.

The animals control guy drives me nuts as often as he inspects my house to make sure that I dont have snakes over 10 feet, but I smile and suck it up, lol.

I agree 100 percent. That is crazy, we just went up to 4 bucks a gallon, insane! I actaully had to raise our hourly rates to cover for the gas prices. Hopefully this wont go on long, as it is effecting the lower income people around here, who cant afford a plumber when something really bad goes wrong in there house. We do about two charity cases a month. The last one was a family who had tree roots in their sewer lines, so bad that the sewage was coming up in their house. They had no way to pay the 4800.00 to have it fixed, with a million little kids running around their house. It was terrible.
I ended up doing for them anyway. Their poor yard didnt look the same when we were done, but no more poo poo in the tub, lol.

We also are starting the HUD housing project, which is really a cool program for people who are low ioncome, but not dead beat crack addicts. It is a program where they build the houses, with a foreman, to oversee everything. They work on everyones house all at once, When they build they will lay the foundation to every house at once, then go from there. So everyone works on everyones house. They are required to work 40 hours a week. It is actaully a really cool program. I am doing all the city inspections for them,, yuck!!!!! I have one carpenter who is overseeing that aspect of it, two plumbers and two electricians. I am actually quite excited to start this project. It is nice to see th Washington State government actually do something to help out our struggling people!
