I only went 6 months after they told me that PT wasn't working and the doctor told me I needed surgery. Marsha you were a good girl to have it done as soon as you did, but it took a bit of convincing. LOL

My family is the same way. When I am sick, I still have to do EVERYTHING but if anyone else is sick you would think the world was coming to an end.
As for wanting to be paid for everything, that is the way my 12 yo is getting. She gets an allowance IF she keeps her room clean, does her homework and does the dishes at least 2x per week. She also has to fold her laundry and actually put it away in her dresser/closet. But if I ask her to do anything else, she's like "How much do I get?" I tell her she gets to live in my house!
I should add up what it actually costs for everything she gets by living here. Lets see ... room and board, laundry, tv/dvd player IN bedroom, cell phone, DC and VAN sneakers (no bobo's for her), saxophone and lessons, interent service and I could go on and on. She informed me the other day that she would like to go to YALE for college!!!!!!!!!!! I told her she better find somewhere that hires 12 year olds and start saving!

LOL Kelly....everything my son does he says I have to pay 10.00....so I just do like you, add up everything he gets inbetween his chores etc.

In my experience, the longer I wait to go to the doctor, the worse my diagnoses gets. I end up finally going for something simple that I tried to wait out, like a sinus infection and come home with five prescriptions for other problems that have blossomed in the meantime. My doctor probably hates me. I usually have a list.

My family is also from the "don't go unless you are dying" group. I don't mind the doctor but the rest of my family KNOWS that they are making up false diseases to fit their symptoms so they can be guinea pigs on new drugs...
I'd go to the doctor over the dentist any day!

Really? They WANT to test new drugs? Yuck.
(I have a real problem with taking pills of any kind - which is bad since I'm on them often.)
