Re: The Internets Longest Thread
MRSA is not something to fool around with! make sure that whatever antibiotics they give him, he takes all of it exactly as told to. Thats if they don't decide to admit him to the hospital for IV antibiotics. The issue with antibiotics is that if you don't take the complete course of them and just stop taking them when you feel better, the bacteria might not be completely gone. And now it has been exposed to the antibiotic and it works to grow stronger. This is how bacteria becomes resistant to drugs, and MRSA is one of the worst.
You should probably talk to the coach and or school and have a notice go out to all the teams that everyone should get checked. MRSA can kill if not caught in time... hope your son has a speedy recovery!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
I have not got the results back from the culture yet,, it is already clearing up,, He was not even showing the slightest bit of feeling ill.
I cant wait till Tuesday to go talk to his school,, I talked to another mother from the team tioday and her son had this 3 weeks ago and was only pulled out for the first 48 hours,, then was allowed back to wrestle,, they say they are no longer contagious after the 48 hours of antibiotics running through them,,,,,,, I CALL BULL!

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Todd was hospitalized for 7 days. He never really felt sick, just a little tired. He went from normal antibiotics to heavy duty ones, every 4 hours via IV. Those days sucked.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
totally bull... In fact I will go to pick up a patient and find out that they are on isolation. I ask why they are on ISO and get the answer "oh 5yrs ago they had MRSA" now don't get me wrong, its not like he won't ever get over it, but one of the reason that people with a history of it go on iso anytime they are in the hospital is that they are susceptible to it again...

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Is it just me, or do the forums suddenly seem a LOT more active? I can barely keep up!
Or maybe I'm just getting busier.
It's a good thing, though.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
ugh! I so don't want to have to go to work today! It's only about 10F right now and only supposed to get into the 20's today. nothing worse than spending 12 hours going from warm building to cold ambulance which finally warms up about the time you get to where you are going, only to have to get out in the cold and then walk into a warm building, walk back out in cold to cold ambulance! And since we have to usually carry all of the patients belongings with us and there isn't usually room on the stretcher since the patient, monitor, and O2 are all stowed away, not like we can take our jackets off once we get inside cause there is nowhere to put them! Can summer come back out to play, please!?!?!?!?

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Aw, sorry Shell. Just remember we REALLY need this cold weather. Think how much healthier people will be if we get a nice long freeze to kill off the bugs (both kinds), and some snow to replenish our water supply.

Re: The Internets Longest Thread
Geeze Typh, always the optimist, thanks for making me feel guilty about dreading the 7 degree weather out there right now...I'm not looking to shoveling the walks and drive all the way around the dang vet clinic. It usually takes a couple of hours, I may just die of hypothermia.
